I moved here to the villages on my own a couple of months ago and so have been enjoying exploring on the golf cart. Every now and again I pull over on a cart path to answer a text on my phone. You know, don’t text while driving. And every single time, someone or even more than one someone stops to ask me if I need any help and if am I ok? I don’t know the names of the people who have stopped, but you know who you are. Thank you for your kindness.

When my sister visited in Feb. many "helpful gentlemen" approached the cart to "help". LOL

I have had the same experience many times. And I'm not an attractive woman. In fact, I'm not even a woman. One time it was while showing a guest around on the cart and we were stopping to admire various views along the Buena Vista Multi-Modal, and several times we were asked if we were lost, or in trouble. My guest was very impressed with that.

I agree that the Villages if a very friendly place. I don't agree with your comment on big cities. I've been to a lot of them and have always found the locals to be very helpful - they may not know the answer to my question but rarely are they rude or nasty.

I agree that people are generally kind and helpful. But, The Villages has a serious lack of available services for older people who live alone, especially for transportation to medical appointments, etc. Generally, big cities have more reliable services.

My experience with big cities is limited to NYC the streets and subways and it’s dog eat dog. You might be right elsewhere.

The Villages is too spread out for public transportation to be feasible. When they had the Sumter Transit busses only a handful of people used it. But there are tons of good services for seniors with all kinds of issues. Some of the clubs have driver volunteers for those who don’t drive. There are also several independent living and ALFs that have transportation for shopping and doctors. Crime here is very low compared to cities. Daily there are reports of seniors being assaulted in cities.
