I am getting a sense when I tell my neighbors that I am renting, they disengage with me and although friendly, they seem to behave differently with the owners here, am I wrong in what I am sensing?
(I understand the sense of community between owners but...) I also understand that renters can be an issue, however, that is not the case with me. I was an owner before I came here to test out area before purchasing, until the prices went so far up, that if I wanted to buy, I may no longer be able to afford to buy here. I am also home-bound due to illness so no parties, no noise and I maintain the property as if it were my own. I hope I am wrong about this.... |

The thousands of homes available/being rented in TV should be an indicator.

It's not unique to The Villages. I wouldn't expect renters to be treated the same as owners anywhere. I don't see an issue if, as you say, they are friendly and not hostile. Owners have more of a stake in the community than renters. It's human nature.

I can assure you it has nothing to do with being a renter, especially if your place is kept up , Ive had 6 homes here and barely knew my neighbors, there are others like me who like to socialize outside there neighborhoods , that’s possibly how the people you may be meeting feel .The last thing I ever want is a neighbor who feel they can just knock on my door to ask me how it’s going and how about a cup of coffee , yuck !!Go Patriots

Not my experience, rented in 4 different villages for 8 years, a month at a time, before purchasing. Neighbors were always friendly. I am friendly to renters in my neighborhood.

Renters are welcome by the people they rent from. For other owners, renters are here today, gone tomorrow.

We discuss one issue at a time and yet reality is never that way. With covid people do not get out as much. Home bound may have soured your views-that is normal. "I may no longer be able to buy here." It is true that prices have gone up here but prices have gone up everywhere. You need to review your finances and decide what you can afford. Almost fortunately, I grew up POOR. To quote a friend, I was an overnight success. It only took me 45 years of hard work. Being happy is a choice. No matter what you have, others will have more. Enjoy what you have |

Tale of the pool. "I couldn't be in there pool." I assume a typeo, should be their pool. In any case there are some strange rules around here also some strange people. I would check what the real story is. There are some pools where people can swim laps. Some people assume they are chiefs. They need to be told off. Well enough so they realize you will not put up with their xxxxxx. As above, you may have given them power that should be yours. |

There are no generic "renters". Just people who rent. They come in all shapes, sizes and personalities... Just like the Frogs who are here full time...
When we rented last year (for two months, prior to buying), we never met anyone who treated us rudely or indifferently when we told them we were renting... Now that we've moved in (albeit part time), we've met several neighbors on the street, several have stopped by and we've had dinner with others... Oddly, we rarely, if ever, see the one's on either side of us... People can be strange... |

I've rented long and short term in three different neighborhoods. Some people were friendly all the time--even during lockdown. Some people were friendly only when they wanted me to contact my landlord re an issue. Some ignored me all the time, even if I spoke to them. People wanted to know how long I'd be renting, so I tend to think along the same lines as the poster who asked why invest in people who would be here today and gone tomorrow.

And during Covid you don’t get to see the friendly side of some people. Those who are especially vulnerable to the effects of Covid are going to frown upon you every time you try to approach them without the social distancing or mask on. They will back off to a safer situation. That behavior might be the opposite of what they do when they feel more comfortable. This is not only towards renters though, anyone can be a carrier.

It doesn’t matter if you rent or own, you can’t pick your neighbors. Some (neighbors) are hospitable and friendly and some not so much. That said we have rented and owned in five different Villages the last fifteen years, and the one time we rented, the neighbors were in the not so much category. The four homes we have owned, one of those was in the not so much category. The house we currently own in The Villages is definitely in the hospitable and friendly category. Again, you can’t choose your neighbors. It’s like throwing a dart onto a dart board from 30 feet.

some people buy as an investment and it has nothing to do with being an indicator of anything, but their ability to invest in such things. Perhaps you could clarify...that would be nice.
