Wait until you get there and use an ATM in Europe. You get a much better rate over there than you do at a bank over here!

You might also want to check on your maximum amount you can withdraw each day. 3) It is also helpful to have a phone that works overseas in case you lose your wallet. Store the card phone numbers some place other than your wallet (in your luggage ) 4) While most places are pretty safe - If you are going to high pickpocket risk areas, consider getting a neck wallet. As I have for many years I keep a few hundred euros and pounds in a home safe and take a few with me when I travel just in case although most European airports have ATMs nowadays so you can get them after you land. Same for many other countries and their currencies. Never had a problem.
