Default VA Offering 2nd boosters

April 7, 2022

Dear Veterans -

North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SGVHS) focus has always been to move forward in a way which everyone who comes into our facilities is safe. We have followed closely with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to continue to provide COVID-19 vaccines and boosters to those eligible.

Recently, the CDC has approved a second booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine or Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine.

The NF/SGVHS’s is now offering second boosters to some individuals (with a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine) if you are:

50 years of age or older and your first booster dose was at least 4 months ago.
Moderate to severely immune compromised and your first booster dose was at least 4 months ago (for some people, this will be a 5th dose).
4 months out from a booster dose and had Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine for both your initial vaccine and your booster.

How to get your booster:

Those who are eligible to receive their COVID-19 vaccines or boosters are encouraged to call 352-548-6000 ext. 103755 to schedule an appointment. No appointment needed clinics are also available. Schedule is located on NF/SGVHS COVID-19 vaccine and testing website. Please make sure to bring your CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card with you. Testing is also available via appointment.

You are best protected when you are up to date on COVID-19 vaccines! If you haven’t had your first booster, you should do it now. Here’s why:

During the Omicron surge, people who were fully vaccinated were much less likely to get severely ill or die compared to people who were not
People who were up-to-date on vaccination (had a booster) were even better protected
Keeping up to date on COVID-19 vaccines can help you and your family stay healthy

I'll be getting my second booster at The Villages Health at Creekside next time I see my PCP in a couple of weeks. TV Health said just to mention it when I walk in to register and they will give me the booster that day.....all ready approved by my PCP. I reached out to them on their portal.

Excellent.

The VA hospital in Gainesville, where we go, has both appointment and walk-in. Since we both have appointments next week, we will drop by and get it.

I am hoping to travel to Ecuador in a week or so, and I am really glad this became available before I go.
