Interesting article on insurance coverage! If you thought insurance rates were high, wait until this gets factored into insurance rates! And would this apply to home insurance??

I doubt that it will affect auto or homeowner's rates at all. When I got an auto insurance quote from Geico last year, the maximum liability coverage they would offer was $250K. They wouldn't even sell me a one million dollar policy. So, the only way this guy has $5 million in coverage is if he has a separate umbrella policy, that have different rate structures and risk assessments than regular policies. Most home and auto policies are limited to no more than $1 million in liability coverage and some companies have much lower limits.

Education is wonderful rather jus posting fear.

The other poster is correct..............there are limits & exclusions.
Not sure of any policy that pays during a criminal act.

Also Geico is a $40BILLION company, $5mil is the CEO's annual bonus.

If it wasn't true, I would think this was satire. Sounds like the inmates are running the asylum.

Why insult the poor defenseless gecko? He had a fool for a client.

If you have $250,000 coverage and the judgment is for $5 million, the first $250,000 would come from Geico. I read everyday about home insurance rates going up because the homeowner's insurance had to pay $15,000 - $20,000 for a new roof. If paying $15,000 to $20,000 causes your home insurance to go up, I would expect that paying $250,000 would cause rates to go up even more.

You really should delete your post.

It's not paying $20k for a roof that is causing rates to go up.............it's paying for THOUSANDS of new roofs.

If this is the only case in the country, it won't affect our rates. However, I expect that lawyers are looking at this decision and trying to figure out how they can benefit from it.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that there are approximately 20 million new STD infections each year. If only 5% sue, that would be 1,000,000 lawsuits.
