Question Is Naples Bay A Good Golf Club For A Beginner?

Hello.

Have been playing for about 3 months with a loaner set.

Now I am ready to be fitted.

I do not want to overspend for my first set. I am considering Naples Bay graphite set and, possibly, Tour Edge.

Is NB a good way to go? How is the quality and longevity? Do they play well compared to a similarly priced Tour Edge?

Thanks in advance.

See if the shop will allow you to demo the clubs. Both of these clubs are known as knock offs and are basically copies of brand name clubs which can cost 2-3X more money. Both are probably the same quality. Personally I look for a club which has a cavity back(more forgiving) and looks good to me. Years ago Ping make a club known as a Ping ZIng. It cost the same as other name brand clubs. When looking down at it, it looked like a mallet to me.

My wife bought a set of Naples Bay clubs this past September, she loves them so far and she has only been golfing for 1.5 years.

Casual/social golfer, I like their hybrids, more consistent and longer drives for my not so strong swing.

I think that you'll find that Tour Edge are a higher quality and more expensive product than Naples Bay.

Either would be fine for a beginner golfer but I don't know that Naples Bay can be truly fit.

My first set were them ones made by Ping, all about 3 inches too long by the way. Luckily my small conduit bender solved that problem lickity split.

Perfectly fine. Wife loves them. Bought online for much better than local price. Most stores are drop shipped anyway from manufacturer

Go to the golf shop in Brownwood. they will fit and let you try all clubs at no charge. I have naples bay clubs with senior flex and they are fine.
If you have any problem with a purchase from there they will make good. Great customer service.

I would suggest Tour Edge, because if you decide to get new clubs later, as your skills increase, you can get something for them in trade....

That would imply that Naples Bay have little to no trade-in value. NB does not have the same reach as TE (not as popular and less online hits of information).

Anecdotally, when I ask the 'man on the street' and in the pro shops they give a slight edge to Tour Edge.

Yet, there are NB fans - albeit a few. I cannot help but wonder if that is due to the small size of the company or marketing or if NB is an inferior product.

I agree with you. Besides, what exactly would you do to "fit" a Naples Bay set to a beginner other than the basics. I don't think anyone would put a $500 shaft on a $70 club.

I never heard of Naples Bay until I read this article. I have been around golf for over 50 years. I was a superintendent, I sold clubs, I was a ranger and at the tsp but never heard of these.

I have heard of Tour Edge, my wife had a set when she started. They have a great warranty and are a good company.
I would not recommend them to anyone with <20 handicap, but they are fine for beginners or occasional players.

For a true beginner, either set will work fine to get you playing. A "fitting" with either one will be limited to selecting the shaft flex, possibly changing the grips, and shortening the shafts if needed. Keep in mind that if you get into golf, and start playing regularly, you will no doubt upgrade your clubs in a couple of years. My personal nod would go to Tour Edge. They are good quality clubs at a decent price, and have a lifetime warranty. Golf Central in Brownwood is a great shop, and they really do care about their customer service.
