Default Aggressively trimming a large oak tree

I've seen a few oaks that have been cut back to almost a nub.
Seems to take a couple of years before it even looks natural at all but,
It doesn't look too bad when it finally does come back.
Does anyone have experience with this procedure or even know what it's called?

It’s called deed restrictions won’t let me cut the dam thing down, so I’ll cut it back to an ugly nub instead.

Call Tree Frog. Owner Kanani Morris. We have extensive landscaping with large trees. Excellent work. He is a licensed Arborist.
