Had anytime NOT done this when recommended and then regretted not doing so later?

Had a neighbor that had driveway damage from a tree too close, and i have seen several very nice landscape walls with gaps or uneven caps due to roots after several years. So I guess you can contact master gardener and ask the question about roots and possible root damage.
