Default Buena Vista Expressway

In Chicago the high speed roads are designated as Expressways, like the Dan Ryan or the Kennedy, etc. If this morning’s traffic is indicative of the norm, Buena Vista Blvd ought to be renamed Buena Vista Expressway. 55 mph southbound approaching Lake Sumter landing. Of course the traffic mimicked the Chicago expressways when it came to a screeching halt and backed up from the wreck at 466A all the way to St. Charles at the St. James roundabout. Holy smokes, folks! Let’s stop driving like Bozos, and keep it down to nine mph over the speed limit.

So was there another accident at the Buena Vista and 466A intersection?

Yes it’s not unusual vehicles traveling maybe 55 mph St James Circle to 466A light. I experience it 2 or 3 times a week. And, the same 466A to St James Circle. I’ve accepted to be the norm.

I go the speed limit in the right lane and don't think or worry about what other people are doing. Just try to avoid the insanity.

Buena Vista does have a couple of southbound "express lanes" between Lake Sumter and 466A. Can pick up speed there.

In observing traffic going south on Morse after L.S. the other day, I mentioned to my S.O. how cars here, reminded me of when we'd travel through Chicago back in the day. In all the years we've lived here I don't think those 1st years 13* ago were like they are today. Many folks are moving here from metro areas where speeds like this are common. I agree people NEED to slow down!! Wish the Sheriff's department would begin issuing tickets once again.

I go the speed limit in both lanes. It does not bother me if other people choose to drive faster.

Not to worry. Soon the seasonal residents will head out. Things will slow down and the construction vehicles will once again rule the roads.

What brand of radar gun did these people buy that enables them to know how fast other cars are going?

You can want it, you can wish for it, you can pray for it, you can stand on your head and spit chicklets, the way people drive in the south in general and the way they operate in The Villages is never going to change. All you can do is strive not to be part of the problem. Every person in our community is the best of the best on the road. Just ask them.

I use my directionals on every maneuver in a roundabout. There is no doubt about my intentions. That being said even though I get an A+ for the effort I commend the people who wait for me to complete my next move and do not trust the blinkers because you can't trust the other person's blinkers down yonder, they often forget to turn them off. You can't be distracted for a split section around here. No heavy arguments or discussions while behind the wheel. NOBODY WILL CHANGE THEIR WAY OF DRIVING EVER.

I have a three million mile safe driving award from when I was a YOUNG MAN. I have more miles in reverse backing up any flavor truck imaginable and yet I readily admit that my driving skills have deteriorated. I don't have the cat like skills that I once did.

I'm the guy in the right lane doing the speed limit and getting the finger once in a while. I don't care. If you honk at me when I don't take off after waiting for a light to turn green like a Pro Stock Driver then we're going to have to sit there for a bit to get you good and heated up. If you get so heated that you choose to get out of your car to discipline me it won't be good. I have changed a lot. I'm Florida Chilled Out but don't push me. I'm retired and left my home with at least a 15-minute grace period to get to my destination safely.

If the OP does change someone else's speeding habits drop us a line and let us all know how you did it. Take Care and good luck.
