Up North we had spectrum WiFi and AT&T Mobile service. We had about 6 smart plugs- a few different brands of plugs hooked up to Alexa and they all worked fine. They also were paired with the Alexa and the phone apps very quickly and easily.
We moved here 2 months ago and got Xfinity for both WiFi and Mobile service. None of our smart plugs will connect to Alexa or phone apps. In fact of the numerous WiFi products I've tried to connect to the WiFi only our thermostat worked, and our burglar alarm, but I stayed on the phone for 45 minutes with the alarm company to get that connected. With that said- has anyone had any issues with Xfinity WiFi / Mobile and pairing smart devices? And if so what was the solution? Thanks

Check that both 2.4 and 5.2 ghz bands are turned on, I understand that some of the routers default to just the 5.s ghz band. No other ideas, hope others will have words of wisdom.

Are you using the same SSID and password that you used up north? If not then the device would still be trying to connect to your old network. They would need to be reset and reconfigured to work with the new SSID and password. My father has a device that for some reason has problems and needs to be reconfigured every time the wifi router is replaced. It could be that some of your devices would have this problem but it is odd that all of them would. Have you tried going through the xfinity app to see if the devices have connected to your wifi? This might give you some idea of what might be going on. Also, it is always possible that the wifi portion of the router is having some issue. This might be hard to prove based on smart devices but if you saw issues connecting your phone or laptop then it would be something to talk to xfinity about.

Although it sounds like your problem is the devices and Alexa are not configured for the wifi here. |

I bring my SimpleSafe Alarm Kit, WiFi camera's and all Amazon Alexa compatible smart switches with me when I rent in TV. First thing I do is reset all devices, remove them from Alexa and install them as new using the WiFi in the rental then adding back to Alexa, never had any issues when using this process. |

I had same problem when I switched internet service from Verizon to Spectrum. The standard Spectrum router was dual band, both 2.4 and 5 however I was unable to choose which was being used to connect a device, the router was making the choice. Most smart plugs use the older 2.4. After discussion with several people at tech support at Spectrum, my solution was to return their router and purchase my own router with the capability of choosing which band I was connecting any device to. Once I did that and tried connecting my smart plugs to the 2.4 band, all was fine

I’ve had Xfinity since I moved in. I’d never had any issues with Alexa or smart devices until I recently got a new router/modem. I can’t get certain lights and plugs to re-install

I had pretty much the same problem. The xfinity router defaults to the same name for both the 5.0 and the 2.4 network name. Some of my devices were trying to connect to the 5.0 band even though they only can work on the 2.4 band. I went into the xfinity app and changed the 2.4 network to a different name and then I could connect the devices to the correct band.

Moved our 11 cameras, 8 plugs, 8 Alexa units, from xfinity at 2 houses. Half at one house with xfinity, rest with spectrum. One the first Alexa was set up, the rest followed. The plugs took a few minutes, just rebooted then all was well

I agree with some of the previous posters, it's not Xfinity.
If you have wi-fi it shouldn't matter what service you're with. |

Previous posters are correct. You will never get them to connect if they have already been connected before unless you wipe them out and start as new install.

The best solution is to re-network the switches, however, there is one possible workaround:
Not sure if you’ve already done this, but the key is in your SSID, which is the name that you’ve given to your in home internet network. Many internet providers just set the SSID to whatever is listed on the router, however, as the end user, you have the ability to set up additional networks (2g, 5G, guest networks in 2g or 5G, etc) and many people do not take advantage of these. Is your current SSID the same as the the one you used at your former residence? If not, before re-networking all of those switches, I’d try renaming the primary SSID on your router to the same as your former SSID that you used up north and see if that doesn’t solve your problem. BTW: after doing this, make sure you go to the Alexa App on your phone or iPad and re-discover available devices. Good luck. Last edited by Nevinator; 09-18-2023 at 07:22 AM. |

In my experience, each device had to have a factory reset on them so that they completely “forgot” the old network. After that they paired to the network like a new device.

Yes a concur with greyskies. When we moved here I needed to totally remove devices from alexa, reset devices and then add as new.
