Exclamation Safety mirrors for blind spots in roads.

The Best Outdoor Convex Security | DomeVex 180'-'Degree View

What do you think about the Sumter County authorities putting some of these up in various blind spots around the Villages so that some of us can see what is coming around the bend?

Especially for us pedestrians crossing the roads from the mail centers after going to or leaving these frequent destinations?

Have suggested it to ARC or the developer?

No. I have not. I wanted to get some feedback first.

These kind of mirrors save lives especially with how fast some people come around bends here in the Villages.

While I like the idea, I have a feeling it won't fly. To avoid these becoming a flying object during a hurricane they will need to be mounted on a suitable pole, which for this mirror to be effective may need to be very close to the road. I have noticed the ones at the tunnels under some lighting conditions are almost useless, especially if the golf carts or cyclist do not have their lights on, so I am not sure if the drivers will be able to see people in these. This is especially true since a lot of walkers seem to like to camouflage themselves when walking especially at night.
I guess a trial installation at a known bad location would be useful.
I would also like info on the lifespan of these in the Florida sun, will they fog or yellow like headlights?

Where you at recommend automatic photo ticketing speeding cameras. That slow them down…

Would they work on a curb? Low down so the wind would not make missiles of them in a storm? And also a few feet long.

Maybe traffic enforcement for speeders would be the first step. I have seen people stepping off curbs without looking left or right can't fix stupid. There is a cross Walt on both Stillwater and St James where pedestrians are waiting to cross in plain view and drivers fly by with no consideration

We quite a few of them in our UK village.
Many houses houses with drives and high hedges, mount them at eye height on opposite side of road to exit.
Long as kept clean, they work well.
Can't see TV taking them on though.
Insurance, cost, who looks after them, etc. etc.

Believe this would be a Sumter County issue as it would be on a county road. In this case, Churchill Downs near the intersection with Livingston Loop in the Village of Lynnhaven. This is right near the Lynnhaven pool and mail center. They could put it on the stop sign as well. And walkers cross that road after getting their mail to go in either direction up or down Churchill Downs.

A few days ago a golf cart sped by that intersection on its way to the mail center with a speeding car right behind it. And a fire truck about 150 feet behind the car. The fire truck was not flashing its lights nor its horn but going at a good pace. It did slow down for the turn.

A lot of cars go way too fast around the bend. And if you add a fire truck into the mix it is a recipe for disaster.
