We purchased a two-year-old home in Citrus Grove in September and the A/C was working fine. When we returned two days ago I can't get the a/c or heat to work. The ecobee thermostat shows the system should be kicking on but no action. I've checked and reset all the circuit breakers, etc.
Is there any kind of warranty for the furnace or a/c that's transferable to new owners? Who should I call to have this looked at? Thanks! |

If it is a Carrier system it should have a 5-year labor and 10-year parts warranty. Most likely, the company who installed the system and will service the warranty is Munn's. If not Munn's, any Carrier authorized dealer should be able to repair the unit under the warranty. The name of the installer should be written on a sticker on the air handing unit. You can write down the serial number on the air handling unit in the garage and look up the warranty status on the Carrier website.
One thing you can check is to see if the condensate drain line is clogged. Pour hot water down the drain and see if it comes out of the pipe behind the garage. |

re the condensate drain- There is a sensor that is plugged into the air handler. When the drain backs up, the condensate works it way back into the air handler and will shut the unit down. If that were the problem , I would pull the sensor and if backup condensate is the issue, it would drain and the unit would work. But the drain would still be backed up,and need to be cleared.

Motor start capacitor's have been a common failure item on recent Carrier systems. |

Look on your air handler, typically in the garage or in a closet in your home. The installer puts their sticker on it for easy reference.
The major possibilities are: Munns Sunkool Sunshine Strata |

I think the only warranty they’re is, but can’t say for sure because we don’t live in TV anymore, I think the only warranty you have is your pocket. Can’t speak for the heat ( your furnace) but the air conditioner check & see if you hear a humming.noise when the air conditioner is on, if you do hear a humming noise it’s the capacitor in the conditioner! But as far as warranty I think you’ll be stuck paying for it, sorry!

Did they charge you for the warranty transfer? My Carrier was 3+ years old when I bought my house (resale), and had to have the A/C serviced by SunKool. They said the parts were covered but not the labor since I didn't pay the $99 fee to transfer the warranty from the original owner.
