Default Was it only me?

Our friends from VA are visiting us, and we knew they would enjoy seeing the New year in (figuratively speaking), at Lake Sumter. We go to the square often to mix and mingle, dance, imbibe in an adult beverage or two, basically its a fun place to socialize in. While there was a good crowd last night, warm weather, lovely Christmas tree etc, to admire, the band's choice of music in the last set, caused a mass exit from the crowd. I will quickly add that the band is very accomplished, and an excellent singer rounded out the talent, BUT, slow, maudlin songs were not what we anticipated at a New Years Eve celebration - We were not alone in that thought, because folks literally got up and left in droves many of them complaining loudly about the choice of songs. We were disappointed to end the night on such a "bummer"... As I said in my title, perhaps we were part of a minority who felt let down....

What songs did they play at the end that caused a mass exodus?

Talented band but not the right choice for New Year's Eve - we left, too.

We felt the same way. Normally we enjoy this particular band but last night absolutely not, too low key and slow.

This group to fine for listening music, usually jazz, but impossible for dancing. Definitely not the kind of music for New Year's Eve.

We had friends leave as well because of the choice in music. Jazz is lovely but not new year's eve type. People like old rock or classics like the 60's through the 80's on new year's eve. Better luck next time.

I totally agree that the band that was chosen for last year and this year New Year's Eve celebration (same group both years) at Lake Sumter did not fit the bill for the kind of fun band we hoped to have. The first year I was here, Rocky played and everyone had a blast dancing and singing....the past two years have been a dud but unfortunately no one seems to be listening to the views of many residents regarding this issue.
