Default Phone call from Medicare ?

Received a phone call from a person that claimed to be from Medicare looking to confirm my Medicare number so I could get the "new card" ??? he said one with a chip.

I refused to give him my info and he finally hung up on me.

Have you received a call like this? Is there a new card?

Sounded wrong...

Congrats on not giving out your card number!!!

Also, a good move on your part keeping him on the phone until he 'finally hung up on' you. You prevented or at least slowed down, his victimizing other people.

Got the call yesterday. He was looking for husband's Medicare number. I told him that I handle all communications with Medicare and the account is in fine shape and there is no need to give out any numbers. He hung up.

Scam - people must fall for this or they would not keep doing it. To even ask if there is a new medicare card......well there you go.

I usually mess with these scammers. I got one, who claimed to be from the IRS, so mad he started cursing me over the phone. Good times.

Yes, me too. Soon after 9/11, I had a cretin call looking for money for first responders, claiming to be from the police. Didn't I want to help the brave men & women, played on my sympathy, & gratitude, etc. For various reasons, I could tell he was a con man. I kept him on the line & appeared to be a pigeon. When he finally realized he wasn't getting my credit card, he got quite colorful.

Bottom line: These are not nice people, so don't feel badly about refusing to give them any of your details.

Likewise, I do the opposite of the recommendations and try to keep them on the line as long as possible. I feel that they have violated my privacy already by ignoring the "Do Not Call" registry. One of my favorites if it is a male is to pretend to be gay and come on to him---usually gets rid of them in a hurry. I also once invited the "US Marshall" who was going to have local law enforcement arrest me for not showing up for "Federal Jury Duty" to come and arrest me himself since it was a "federal" warrant and he was a "federal agent". He advised me to have my lawyers present---which I informed him were from the law firm of Smith, Wesson, Remington, Colt and Glock---he did not show up
