Did anyone go to the POA meeting on Jan 18 and can give us some comments on what went on? According to the January POA Bulletin Mr. Pete Wahl was going to give a talk about the Moffitt Cancer Center and also answer questions. I know this has been a very hot button issue within TV and am curious as to the outcome.

The one question I would loved to have asked Pete is who is going to have actual ownership of the equipment and who is going to get the tax benefits for deprecating that equipment over the years.

While thinking of health care our local paper recently ran an article that opened my eyes to how hospitals and sticking it to the patients and insurance companies. Last I heard Mr Wahl was no show, sent a list of answers to questions raised.

However, I did hear a Dr. Anderson had some informative things to say.

how can anyone charged with a responsibility to raise this kind of money and accepts knowing he has a fiduciary responsibility by law and not show his face to people he is asking money from, is this what the villages procedures are all about???:

I did not go to the POA meeting, but did go to the VHA meeting. They had a Town Hall type meeting where questions from the floor were taken. The panel that answered was the director from the Villages hospital, the Director from Leesburg hospital, and two representatives from Moffitt. The meeting was very informative, explaining how both Leesburg and The Villages Hospital will have a Moffitt Center with the same equipment and how each will raise the money, independently. They also explained, if the Villages Hospital didn’t have the money for the Moffitt equipment by the time the building was ready, they would use money from a fund to build the Brownwood Hospital which could delay that project. Either way it would open on schedule. It was also explained the equipment would belong to The Villages Hospital, not Moffitt. The equipment that Leesburg raised money for and purchased would belong to Leesburg, not Moffitt.

I stopped by the office at Sumter without an appointment and was able to spend time asking Pete Wahl questions about the Moffitt. He was easy to talk with and willing to address any issue I had.

Pete Wahl sent then an e-mail saying he couldn't answer the questions raised in depth like he could in writing. If you're buying that one, I got some swamp land......

For an accurate description of what is really going on, read Lauren Ritchie's article in the Orlando Sentinel, which was cited earlier by Shadow: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...1468200.column We certainly are not going to get the real story in the Daily Sun, which is owned by the Developer, or from the Villages Home Owners' Association, which is essentially a front for the Developer.

When regard to the question about Mr. Wahl's failure to appear, as he had promised to do, at the Property Owner's Association Meeting: Mr. Wahl's e-mailed excuse was read to the meeting. His rationale for not appearing evoked peals of laughter from the audience.

The facts that were brought out at the meeting about the Moffitt Center were disturbing, including the fact that the Developer's Daily Sun, which been pushing for donations (which, by the way, are apparently are unneeded for the Center), has published the misleading statement indicating that the Developer was donating land for the Center. In fact, the Developer is going to rent the building to the Center; i.e., this is a profit-making operation for the Developer.

As one member of the audience summed up the situation: "It looks like we've been snookered."

On a minor point: To correct an earlier post, Mr. Wahl did NOT send the POA a list of answers to the questions that the POA had raised. He had the Villages Health Alliance provide written answers, and those were not particularly edifying.

I suggest that interested Forum members check the next POA Bulletin and attend the next POA meeting.

Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the POA meeting on Jan 18th.

I did attend the VHA meeting on this subject. While some questions were answered at this meeting, others were not. The audience was not allowed to ask questions directly from the floor. Questions had to be submitted in writing. The VHA President then reviewed the questions and read (or summarized) some of the questions which the panel answered until the allotted time for the meeting came.

I think that me and The Villages is better off with a "Cancer Center" than without one.
