Does anyone know if there is a maximum size wheel/tire that is allowed on The Villages golf courses? We are in the market for a golf car and wanted to know what was allowed before we bought.

I haven't seen anything regarding size, but they do have to be turf friendly tires. A good example is the Evolution D5 golf carts. The Ranger has turf friendly 14" tires. The Maverick has 14" off road tires, and those would not be allowed on our courses. As long as the tire is classified as "turf friendly" or as a "turf tire" you would be fine.

Tire Policy


In an effort to continue to provide the best quality golf courses possible, The Villages has implemented a guideline pertaining to tires that are allowed on the golf courses. This went into effect July 1, 2006. With the popularity of street-legal vehicles, the intention of these guidelines is to protect the conditions of the golf courses by having the golf cars use tires safer for turf use.

Below are the specifications used to determine the eligibility of the tire:

The manufacturer of the tire must refer to the tire as a "golf course tire".
The tire must have a rounded vertical tread with a maximum depth of ¼ inch.
The total width must be a minimum of 8 inches.
The tire pressure must not exceed 28 psi.
Golf cars that do not have the approved tires will not be allowed on any of the Championship Courses in The Villages. If a golfer only plays courses on the Executive Golf Trail, they will be allowed to use their cars, but will be restricted to paths only. All golfers with a reasonable accommodation card must have their tires on the approved list.

There are two lists of tires which have been approved during the inspections. One list is for tires approved for all four wheels and the other list is for tires approved for the use on the back wheels only. If there is a tire that is not on either of the approved lists, please call Brady Godfrey (Mallory Hill CC, 753-3730) and make an appointment to see if the tire may be approved.

Just recently I've noticed several utility vehicles used as golf carts in TV. Much wider than golf carts, they don't even fit in the golf cart lanes.

Yesterday saw two kids sitting on a flat bed on one of these monster vehicles.
They were going down the middle of the the golf cart lane crossing the bridge on Morse going south towards Sumter Landing.
Of course going almost as fast as car traffic in a 10mph zone (very narrow area for carts).

Be careful of exceeding the height of the underpasses - and dont look at the height in the middle, you need to stay on the right side of the underpass

Have played every course many times. Who checks? Normally play early and just go. Mine should meet standards.

I'm surprised there is no mention of allowing 6 seater golf carts on courses. A guy on my street plans to get a 6 seater forward facing cart that is almost 14 feet long and is planning to take it on the golf courses.
