Default 676-8664. No area code attached.

Looks like a scam.

He made it sound like a mix up with a payment would ruin my credit score IF I did not return the call. I did not return the call. I had no idea what he was talking about. I do not answer any calls but research who is calling me and then maybe call back.

There is a big red flag attached to those 676-8664 numbers.

This is a message that would NEVER be received in a legitimate call. If anyone on the other end of the phone tries to scare you into taking action, it's a scam. It's the same with emails. Well played OP.

Depending on your phone (or service) calls from 352 area code always show only 7 digits and no area code on my home phone (Comcast 'land line'), this started several years ago when 10 digit dialing was imposed.
I agree with you suspecting a scam/spam call, I have now started screening all calls, if you do not leave a message or have a name I recognize you do not get a return call.

Don't answer unknown calls, let them leave a message. No message, no call back....

Default Scam callers

Just because your caller-id shows a local number, it may not be. Phone numbers can be cloned. I had a call the other day from a 352 number that seemed familiar. A reverse number look-up showed the number was assigned to a private residence in Ocala. I answered when a call from that same number came again. The background noise sounded like the caller was in a telemarketer/scammer boiler room. The caller had a thick foreign accent and simply wanted to confirm the name and number on my new Medicare card. Yeah, sure. Then what do you think would happen?

I seem to get those kind of calls. I usually just let the answering machine get all the calls.

Same with EMAILS that look legit, until I fully expand the senders email address. When the email address is anything but what it should be, that’s a clear red flag. I.E. - Looks to be an Amazon email, but expand the senders “Amazon” address, it’s anything but Amazon.

If no name listed with the call, it means, it is not in your telephone directory, DON’T answered. If it is important, they leave you a message, and YOU can return the call. If the caller doesn’t leave me a message, after a few minutes, I proceed to block it. If you answer, and it is span, telemarketers, fraudulent call, now they now it is a good/valid number a they “sell it” to the next scammer/ telemarketer. In occasions, they have the ability to make international three way calls even if you hang up, and you get the bill. I save every valid caller; doctors, services, friends, family in my phone, so i know who is calling me and I answer the call with confidence.

Yes, even the email address can be deceptive. I just received an alert email from "Experian". For grins I looked at the sender address which was experian.com but with a s.usa. in front. Of course my actual Experian account has no alerts and is frozen. By the way Experian makes it a bit more difficult to get to your frozen status. You have to wade through a lot of solicitation for their paid lock service (vs freeze). Lock permits instantaneous unlock via their app, while unfreeze may take an hour.
And FYI, like others, I don't answer calls if not in my address book. My number is an out of area number which greatly helps screening as I get at least 2 to 3 spam calls daily from that area. Rant time -The one PITA I have is sometimes calls from TVHS come via strange out of area numbers, but they always leave a message. Then trying to get back with them is very difficult. Best to use the TVHS portal to communicate with them.

I had a scammer call that appeared to be from my bank.
They wanted my login information.
I hung up and called the number that appeared.
The bank knew nothing about the fraud they claimed.

My cell phone is always in the "do not disturb" mode, with the exception of callers stored on my "contacts" list. There is also an option to use a "favorite contacts" list, which is a shorter list. This has completely eliminated unwanted calls. Any caller, who is not on my contacts list, can leave a voice mail. Problem solved.

they test numbers now with text messages as well. txt message goes through, good number.

Since I know no one in TX, most/all texas area code calls are scams. I wish i could block the area code 430

I got an email last night, threatening to tell my neighbors about my watching porn, when it seems the writer knows because he watches my through the camera on my laptop. LOL. I simply blocked and deleted it, but it was pretty funny.... since I don't watch porn and my camera has been blocked for years. Wanted $1950.00 in bitcoin by today.

Doubt if my neighbors would care if I watched porn.

LOL. I once watched a stand-up comedian ask a large audience for everyone who watches porn to raise their hand. No hands went up. he said, "That's amazing, a $100 billion industry, but no one watches it".
