Default Looking for a Veterinarian

We're looking for a Veterinarian for our small dog and prefer one that also boards dogs. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would strongly suggest you ask for quotes for 'general' type services such as shots, yearly examination, etc. and be prepared for sticker shock! Although we're originally from Georgia, we moved here from an area only 2 hours away and the vet bills here are almost double what they were there. Some, such as 'vet in a box' storefronts are even worse than that. We're still looking for a permanent vet but haven't made the effort to go well outside the 'bubble' to find one we we liked that was also less expensive. Good luck.

I strongly suggest going outside of The Villages to get better prices. Also hopefully a private vet who hasn't sold out to a corporation. We love our vet, Candice Manganaro at Park Heights Animal Care in Fruitland Park, but they have been bought by a corporation. However, after 13 years with her and all her expertise with our dogs (especially with one of our Goldens) I would never change. She is the best vet we've ever had in 30 years.

It depends on what area you’re looking in. I use Sumter County Animal Hospital.

Central Florida Veterinary Hospital off the 441 (listed as in Summerville). They were fantastic in treating my dog. I had used two different (& popular) Vets in the Villages & walked out with over 400. bills with nothing being done (except questionable vaccinations and charges for examining her when the Dr looked at her for less than a minute.)
I then took her to Central Florida Vet Hospital & they resolved everything for 4x less, and were very pleasant & quick to help, Great Dr there who treated her, not just the desk staff treating my dog.
Excellent group. They are fairly new & will likely grow their customer base quickly.

Another vote for Dr. Amy Huff in Leesburg. We use a pet sitter through Joan at Away From Home Pet Sitting (352-391-2323). She checks out all the sitters who work for her. If they have a problem (death in the family, etc), she covers for them. Only your pets are allowed in the sitter’s home at a time.

We have two dogs and have been using Sumter county Animal Hospital for years. Dr. Brown and staff provide excellent service at reasonable prices. I believe they now have two veterinarians both of which we find to be very knowledgeable and compassionate. Tucker and Petey recommend highly.

You need to look outside the bubble. Anything within the Villages is much more expensive than outside the villages. Dr. Porter in Wildwood is excellent. They are in the Save A Lot shopping center.

We use Country Oaks Vet Clinic, also on 441 in Summerfield. The doctors and staff are top-notch. Not sure how competitive prices are - just a lot more than where we moved from.

I don’t know about boarding animals but Dr. Leah Girard is the best.

We also use Sumter County Animal Hospital, Dr. Brown. Switched to her after using two Villages’ vets for a number of years. Finally got tired of the exorbitant vet bills from them. Dr Brown is great, staff is great, and cost is substantially lower.

This is in regards to boarding. Always ask when the last evening bathroom break is for your pet. Normally I would have a pet sitter come to my house. I used the vet instead for a one night trial. When I picked up my dog the next morning her bedding was soaked with urine. When asked their response was they start at 3 pm because they close the office at 5pm & don’t start again until after 8 am when they open. Can you go 12+ hrs without using the toilet.
