I wonder if anabolic steroid use had anything to do with it.

Hulk was quite an enjoyable character. May he rest in peace.

He was an outstanding character and enjoyed his act years ago when we watched wrestling from time to time.

Rest in Peace hulkster

He helped to elevate wrestling to mainstream in the 1980's. The shows would substitute for Saturday Night Live at times.

Did WrestleMania "invent" pay per view?

The steroid thing crossed my mind as well. He certainly was an entertaining character.

nope, i saw ali frazier 1 in the south bronx nyc. The only way we were able to get past the thousands outside looking for tickets to get in was to pretend we didn't have any and inched closer to the nyc police guarded entrance to the movie theatre before ducking in under their protection. The first actual ppv fight was 1960 paterson versus johansson . R. I. P. HULK

My father religiously would watch professional wrestling. I was in high school and I TRIED to watch it with him. But, it was so obviously faked that I NEVER watched it again. Real wrestling like in high school and college is a different story. It is interesting. I signed up for a phys-ed wrestling class in college. It was incredibly physically difficult. I could only IMAGINE how good the scholarship wrestlers were. It is strange to me, even today, why GLORIFY FAKE sports when there are so many REAL sports available on the TV dial?

short answer, most entertainment via media and movies is " fake " by definition. No, one can fly or have super human powers. Tom cruise doesn't really work for the imf. That established . Meryl streep really didn't make a choice. Pro wrestling of course is orchestrated mayhem but how many people do you know could have survived a ring encounter with hulk hogan? Their physicality was certainly more believable than spider man. To each his own
