Default Government shutdown will happen soon

We might get one more short term funding resolution and then the shutdown will begin. With a deficit of 223 billion in feb and increasing each month, I wonder if they can start it back up
What if anything should we do to prepare?

Default The government "shutting down" is an anecdotal political

posturing exercise-game that has been going on for years. It is posturing for politicians to get their favorite projects passed/included.

If our government is capable of sending billions of dollars to countries around the world...they are fully capable of assuring continuity of operations.

It is the classic the sky is falling (again!!) ruse!!!!

How about they try something novel...freeze/stop ALL non essential spending effective tomorrow. They will be in session for 37.6 weeks re-defining what constitutes essential....they do not comprehend non-essential....they are politicians.

You dont believe we have a debt of 14.2 trillion, had a 223 billion deficit last month, that we are buying our own debt using QE2 because no one else wants it, the federal gov forced interest rates down to zero because the debt is so big they cant pay a decent interest rate. I do. Do you think we can just print our way out of this mess? I dont.

Sounds good to me, less regulation and taxes, always a good thing, wish they would shut down half the year or more, = more freedom from govt.

If the Federal government shuts down, Sparky, who is going to take care of your Social Security check, your Medicare payments, the care for veterans through the VA, air traffic controllers, and a host of other things?

Also, consider the number of Federal government employees who would be out of work. Do you think it is right for them not get paid? If there is a shutdown, it would not be the fault of the employees. Lots of families live paycheck to paycheck. Do you, Sparky, just tell them "tough luck"?

Basically, Sparky, think of consequences if the shutdown does occur. Then, if it does, calculate how much money will be lost by all affected - and then blame Congress (all parties) - not just Tea Bag or Republicans. Plenty to go around for the Democrats to have a huge slab, too.

Tbugs - This sounds harsh and it is for the people involved. However, that is what happens when a company loses money and can no longer afford an operation. If they did not, then the company would collapse and everyone would lose their jobs. Is it better to bite the bullet now and do the right thing or pretend to be compassionate by doing nothing? Our governments, at all levels, have until recently, chosen to bury their heads in the stand and pretend it will all solve itself. It wont. If we chose inaction in the face of continuing losses, then this country will go bankrupt and we will all be out of work.

BBQMan, I can definitely see your viewpoint - and I agree to some degree.

However, chances are just about 100% certain IF a shutdown occurs, the Federal employees will get paid for all the days they were home on furlough - just like in 1995. This WILL happen and is also a huge waste of money.

The Tea Bags will blame Republicans and Democrats will blame both and it will be another no win for anyone. We did not send these jokers to Congress for this purpose.

In the meantime during a shutdown, most needed programs - including your Social Security check and Medicare treatments will be postponed; veterans may receive urgent care but not long term care; home loans will be denied; colleges will deny classes to veteran's children; and lots of other programs will be curtailed.

Does a government shutdown mean that none of the govt employees will be paid, including all VIP's, Congress, HR, VP, Pres, etc etc..... I mean all of the humungous salaries within the government?????

We could probably balance the budget in a heartbeat if we cut the payroll of all the government VIP's and overpaid/overstaffed employees in DC!!!!

Just reading and taking in comments, but your obnoxious use of the term "tea bags" is just typical MSNBC type style of childish and disgusting use of the term "Tea Party" which stands for Taxed Enough Already. Now get with the discussion and stop being such a pig.

Default Get over it.

Blue Heron must have a mighty thin skin to allow my use of Tea Bag upset him so much. Get over it. Read the rest of the post and comment on that, if you want. I have seen many, many Tea Party members wearing hats with tea bags attached to the brim of the hat. It obviously does not bother them to be affiliated with tea bags. Why does it bother you so much?

Bucco says I demean others. Blue Heron calls me a pig. Gee, who is demeaning others?

Blueheron and I are not alone and this is not the first time you have been called on your ability to demean others in your posts directly or sarcastically !

If that is what you do fine, but please dont try to turn the tables. Most folks are fiery about their beliefs without the gutting of another person in doing so. You can disagree with the Tea Party movement if you wish without being so sarcastic (you dont veil it very well ) !

I stand by what I said.

I personallly do not care to continue talking about this matter. I have more important things to do than to respond to your personal puffery.

Please get outdoors and enjoy the wonders of The Villages. Perhaps after a round of golf or a stop at Cody's Roadhouse you will have a happier outlook on life.
