Default Top Cancer Doctors "Opt Out" Of Airport Scanners.

Reports of doctors who are specialists in treating cancer opting out of the scanners at airports because, as they report, they don't trust the calibration of the machines and, more importantly, radiation has a cumulative effect on the body throughout your life. Frequent flying put you at greater risk.

I posted a CNN link for skeptics who might read a story from the liberal media with a little objectivity. The author does consult a couple of CNN medical talking heads and celebrity Dr. Drew Pinsky who'll go through scanners, but includes all the real oncology and neurology doctors who explain that they'll do whatever it takes to avoid the added radiation.

Again, as with a previous thread, I post this strictly F.Y.I.

Feel free to have yourselves irradiated at your choice. For now, we are still free to choose.

The irony is that you get less radiation form the scanner than you do from an airplane ride from NY to LA.

You argue that point with some of the top oncologists in the nation. I'll defer to their expert opinion. I'm sure they're aware of ambient radiation.

Top oncologists are found in the top cancer centers; Sloan Kettering, MD Anderson, Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins, Moffitt, etc.

Prominent oncologists are found in more places.

Accumlating radiation is not good for you. Top or prominent or any oncologists will agree with that.

Neither is being blown up in a plane.

Gracie, the docs are only saying they do not subject themselves to the radiation for health reasons and they are oncologists and neurologists.

They go for the pat-down instead because they fear the accumulated exposure to the radiation of the scanners.

You know I would do neither, but you are free to choose your own position to acquire the false sense of flying security so many think they are getting.

So ........... if you are the one pulled out of line for the enhanced security .............

You may hold your hands over you head, spread your legs and get bombarded with full body radiation head to toe ........

Or, you can do as these oncologists prefer ........

And hold your hands out and spread your legs and let the person in the blue uniform feel every square inch of your body.

I did notice they said they were worried about *proper calibration* of the devices.

I *guessing* that they're worried more about a broken machine putting out more radiation than spec.
