Has anyone found a better way to Jacksonville than going on 301?

It would be about 175 miles, but you could take I-75 North to I-10 East .vs. 125 miles on 301.

441 to 42 to 19 to 17. This is how we go when we travel to New England. We usually take the by-pass around Jacksonville since 17 comes into 295 west of I 95. We have found this route to be easy and traffic-free for the most part. Besides, like us, you may see a bear as you travel 19 through the Ocala National Forest! I can tell you that from our home in the Palo Alto area our travel time to Palatka is an hour and a half, to 295 in Orange Park two and a half hours, and to I 95 north of Jacksonville less than three hours. Publix in Palatka is a good rest stop and the times I have quoted here include that. Total mileage from our home to I 95, north of Jacksonville, is 144 miles.

in Ponte Vedra, south of Jacksonville, took us about 2 and half hours..

Our Route:

441 to 42 east, 42 to 19 north, 19 north to 40 east, 40 to I-95 north

"Better" is pretty subjective, here is a thread which offers some more opinions. For us, better is shortest and fastest and we have never found a shorter or faster way than 301. Keep in mind we are headed past Jacksonville to 95 N, but to my eye that should not change my opinion.

Thank you all for your best route information. Looks like there are a few different ways to go north. I probably will stick with 301 and watch my
speedometer closely.
