On Aug 3rd if the budget is not passed the President will have to prioritize payments. The first thing he comes up with to default is Social Security checks? Please DJ, it's grandstanding at it's best.

While I agree with the generalization of grandstanding, I'd call it *reactionary* grandstanding.

Christian Lopez shows us what's wrong with our country. He's the guy who caught Derek Jeter's 3,000th hit. He did "The Right Thing" and gave the ball to Jeter. The Yankees also rewarded him (without asking) with season tickets to the rest of this year's games, including playoffs, memmorabilia and a handshake from Jeter. So what do we do? The IRS is going to go after this cell phone salesman with $100K in student loans to get an estimated $13,000 in "gift taxes". From a local paper:

The fact that the GOP half of the meetings in DC are still trying to protect tax shelters for their owners (multibillion dollar oil subsidies = good, few hundred million in solar subsidies = bad) has pushed Obama to his position.

This GOP is nothing like the GOP I voted for in the days of Reagan. Reagan couldn't get the nomination today. After all, he passed tax hikes, amnesty for illegals, got us OUT of small wars (Grenada, Panama) and, most sinful of all, made deals with democrats.

Personally I think the Tea Party tail is wagging the GOP dog. Boehner seemed somewhat willing to compromise on taxes (if he got enough cuts) but McConnell and the Tea Party said "if you do, we lose our jobs".

So we have another case of politicians being slaves to being re-elected instead of doing what a majority of Americans consider "The Right Thing".

I think you meant cantor, not McConnell. Cantor is the tea party preferred leader although I do not think he is. McConnell is the one who has the alternative plan to give Obama the power to raise the debt limit and has ticked off all of the tea party and conservative talk show hosts.

The libs are doing an awful good job of even ginning up support for ineffectual tax hikes among people I usually consider intelligent in the realm of basic economics . Does it somehow make you feel better to be pushing for tax hikes which won't help one iota in paying off Obama's deficit, and create the private sector jobs that are the only means to growing this economy?

Please relax and take a listen to our great new Senator from Florida, Sen. Mark Rubio as he tries to explain to you the folly of your preferred approach. We need more taxpayers, not more taxes.

And what's the major motivation for companies going offshore? It's the taxes and regulations in this country that make it worth it to do so. Government has to quit beating up on business. It's that simple.

Capitalism is about greed. Business greed can be good for the economy. When the government is overly greedy and salivating over business profits though, business will find a more hospitable arrangement even if it complicates their business.

I thought you had a full understanding what NOT ONE M O R E meant.
But let me clear that up for you. No More Taxes than is in the budget right now, to fund any further ridiculous spending.

BHF: Thanks for the clarification. I had erroneously misinterpreted "not one more cent" as in "not even next week's withholding". Read too much into a post that had emotion in it.
