Why do some people have screens on their garage?
Our summer was HOT here but everyone talks about the garage getting hot... Hotter then on hot days in the north? And does it matter and why???

Screens on the garage doors allow you to cool the garage in the summer without letting wee beasties in...and letting everyone view your garage interior. Not all of us have garages as neat as Talk Host...
![]() Garages get hot here because the temps are hotter for the most part....and the sun is at a different angle....and the sun could be shining on your garage door and the door might not be insulated. It gets warm. Some like to work in their garages and during the day, it can be just too darn warm in the summer months. Summer is a long season in Florida though not all the months are extremely warm.

Yeah... I know... I saw Talk Host's garage.... I felt the need to go out and clean mine... I opened up TOTV and the feeling quickly passed!

I don't think the heat itself is any different than a hot summer up north, it seems to be more the humidity that makes it uncomfortable.... humidity doesn't seem to permeate our garage in Tinley Park in the way it does our garage here. Ours is attached, as it is here, but it's brick, larger and the door is heavier. Maybe those are factors.
But I'm not one to spend a lot of time out there any which way, so I won't complain! |

That's why I was asking... We have had hotter days here this year then TV and since I just don't go in the garage... I didn't know if it mattered...

A lot of homes have the laundry in the garage, that may be a reason to do a screen. Seems to me it's always closed when it needs to be open, or the other way around!

The patio villa I rented in TV earlier this month had the washer and dryer in the garage. I only rented for 1 week, but I was wondering how I would like having the washer and dryer in the garage if I was to buy a patio villa with that arrangement. Something to think about...

I love our garage screen door. I had never seen or heard of one before we moved here, but if I had, I would have installed one “back home”. It does make a difference in the temperature, provides privacy and air-flow while letting in light, and as Pooh said, it helps to keep out the flying insects. It’s actually one of my favorite things that we’ve added since we moved here.

However, if the stuff in your garage is ample, but your garage isn't, you may find it impossible to maneuver the terrain each time you run back and forth. Storing laundry essentials takes up garage space too, unless you shlep that back and forth from the house. You won't hear the buzzer on the dryer either, if that's important to you. Ours is inside. Hubby has STUFF out there, and that's his domain. But I'd be content either way... cause I LOVE it here! |

I plan to screen mine in a short while. During the "not so hot" months, I opened the door to the garage and the windows in the house and a beautiful breeze comes thru. No need for ac.
