Default Gps for golf carts

For newbees a GPS for Golf carts would be a great addition to the Villages . I understand that Villagers that have been here for many month-years have learned the tunnel systems. The newbees and guests do not have that Luxury.

Even if a gps system was not available- a from point A to point B that showes DETAILED MOVES WOULD be a great addition.

thanks

Call your GPS company, Garmin, Tom-Tom, etc., and request that they make available for purchase a golf cart route map for the villages. Garmin makes a route map for white water rafters, and trail map for hikers. I don't think that they, either company realize that there would be a market for a golf cart map of The Villages. The young man that I spoke to was surprised to hear of the amount of golf cart roads and the number of golf carts in this area. I hope that he passes my suggest up the line that and that Garmin makes use of it. I know that I would be one of the first to buy this map, as it would be a great help to all of us.

Default No gps maps

It won't happen. I have looked into this a long way up the ladder. The golf cart paths are on private property and the villages must approve the mapping and marketing of those paths. The villages will not do as it would cut into the sales of the $5 map they sell. They could have all the attractions on the gps. Put each days open houses on it. Would be great for those on lifestyle visit. But cuts into profit in another area. Colleges do this for visitors is great for people to explore and learn new things about the area. The villages think of us as mushrooms, just keep us in the dark and feed us BS. How nice would it be to stream the radio station, talking to an employee of the station at a remote, he says they want control of the area it goes to. He indicated they would never stream it as long as the computer challenged leadership is in charge. Welcome to Americas friendliest home town!

John.... Honestly speaking, there are only a few major routes you need to learn to navigate the Villages trails. The best way to learn your way around is to just get out and drive...get lost...get help....drive some more...get lost... you get the idea. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful, especially to someone lost on a cart.

As for GPS...I just think it's not a commercially viable project.

Just my thinking, but welcome to TOTV!

Many paths are adjacent to roads. I have a GPS in my cart and it works fine. When you are on a path, the unit thinks that you are on the road and acts accordingly. When you are well away from the road, the unit still shows your position. I just use mine for the speedometer function, but it will take you to a specific location.

The map they sell for $5 has all the golf cart paths on it. On Sunday I went from our home in Sunset Pointe to a home in Harmeswood just North of Glenview. There was only one spot across El Camino from the Savanna Center that was a little confusing as to which path to take. But that only took a minute to figure out. Some of the tunnels around there with the one way entrance can be challenging the first time, but again not that difficult.

The only place people forget how to navigate is the small golf cart roundabout behind Laurel Manor by the water tower. They go it around it the wrong way. Folks, it's a roundabout. Always go around to the right just like you do in a car on the roads.
