Brooksville, FL – Virginia Trace resident Pat Monti started his round with a birdie and followed it up with 17 more holes of tough, grinding, rain-soaked golf to record a 77 for his first win on the Senior Amateur Golf Tour of North Central Florida at the World Woods Rolling Oaks course yesterday (Monday, August 8).
The day started with a two-hour delay as the thunderstorms rolled off the Gulf, delivering torrential rain to the course. And, as play finally began, golfers continued to dodge rain showers throughout the round.
Even though the rain gear and the umbrellas kept coming out, Ed Fletcher, who lives in the Village of Poinciana, placed second in the “Championship Flight” with a 78.
Other winners included, in the “A Flight”, Wayne Morrison with a 78, Dave Smith with an 81 placed second and Lee Sorenson with an 85 placed third. Jerry Smith won the ”B Flight” with an 85, and Terry Campbell won the “C Flight” with a 91. Placing second in the “C Flight” was John Tayman with a 95.
Morrison is from Macclenny, FL, Jerry Smith lives in Spring Hill, FL, Campbell is from Brooksville, FL, Dave Smith lives in Ocala, FL, Tayman is from Deltona, while Sorenson is also from The Villages, FL.
