One of our neighbors is part time and been gone a few months. I noticed someone placed orange flags with no writing or identification of any kind in the ground along their property. Anyone know what they are for or indicate? Hopefully there are no problems.
Thanks |

Sounds like a "call before you dig" issue. If a utility need to digs to lay or fix any underground wires or pipes, they are supposed to use issue notification.
Other affected utilities then are required to mark the location of their underground infrastructure. This way one utility doesn't accidently dig into another utility's wires or pipes and cause a leak. |

When property is surveyed, like when you are buying a house, they put the orange flags out on the property boundaries. Also, when you have the underground fence for your dogs installed, they put up the flags so you can train your dogs. The flags could be indicators for underground utilities if there is going to be work done on the property.

I just thought of something, P. Utilities are marked with different color spray paint on the ground too. So it may not be utilities.

Could it be that the lawn was fertalized? Massey put a few small flag like markers on our lawn when they fertalized and there were only a few of them! IIRC I don't think they were red though!

I think orange flags are supposed to be for communication, cable TV, alarm or signal lines, cables or conduit.

I know that some of the pest control people (smaller companies/individuals) put out flags of varied colors after they've sprayed. If it's a property I know is unoccupied, I actually collect the flags so I can use them for broken sprinklers and the like.

Maybe a neighbor installed an underground fence for their pet? They usually mark it with flags to give the dog or the owner a visual I think.

We use the IAPMO (plumbing & mechanical) coding for flags attached to steel WIRE............. WHITE= pre-excavation......BLUE= Water.............YELLOW= Natural Gas......GREEN= Sewer......ORANGE= telephone or fiberoptics.................RED= Electric.........PURPLE=recycled water. When you say ALONG their property, indication is telephone or fiberoptics...........However IF the Orange flags were attached to WOOD stakes....and were AT the CORNERS of property.indication would be survey boundaries. Hope this helps.....
