Default Garage Door Keypad

Are you allowed to put a garage door keypad on the outside of your house. I'm old and I saw my keys sometime last week but I can still remember a 4 digit number. Idea's - suggestions?

I've had one on every garage door I've ever owned. It would be quite interesting when I install one in TV if I was told I could not have one

No problem having a garage door keypad on the outside of the garage. I have one. I bought my home 2 years ago from the original owner. He had it installed a few years before I bought the house.

Mine was on the new house when I bought it. No where in my deed restrictions does it indicate they are not allowed. Kinda like a door bell..........

Bought two, one for me one for a friend from Ro-mac on Rolling Acres Rd. Very easy to install. Ro-mac's price was comparable to online sites.
Thought my friend's home would be more difficult because it was block/stucco but a small masonary bit did the trick.

Last summer RoMac had a sale & they would come to the house and install the keypad for a great price (but I can't remember how much it cost). They did everything while we stood around looking at the booklet, and it was all finished in 20 minutes. We're very happy with ours, and almost every house on our street has one. Oren, it's worth every penny when I can't find my keys!

How do you lock the door if you don't have a key?

EMS has suggested a keypad in case your door is locked and they need to get in. I once had a broken ankle and was unable to get to the door to unlock it.

I am curious, do these keypads have a universal code that EMS can use or do they still have to have your private code?

NO. You would have to provide it when you call 911
You could use your street address; no wait thats the first place a criminal will look.....
Just use a code you won't forget; birth year, ann. date...

The garage door opener has a "learning mode" that you use to program in your own set of numbers. Very simple per the instructions.

If keypads had a universal code, I'd pretty much think that the bad guys could universally know it too!

Why bother to lock the door going from the house to the garage if your garage door is down? Besides, that would also defeat the purpose of the EMS being able to open the garage door with the keypad code if the door going to the house was also locked.

I think you can give your EMS your code, but am not sure. If you are calling 911, you can give you code at this time.
