Default Two medium sized lab mixes found near CR101 and CR104 in Oxford.

A good samaritan at the Doggie Doo Run Run-- near CR101 and CR104 in Oxford-- saw two lab mixes walking down the highway and managed to coax them into part of that dog park.

Both dogs had no collars.

She then called Sumter County Animal Control http://sumtercountyfl.gov/index.aspx?nid=75 which picked them up around 12:15 this afternoon from the Doggie Doo Run Run.

The two dogs look like a chocolate and a brown lab mix with perhaps a little pit bull in one of these very friendly and very well kept dogs. They were great with people who approached them and seemed OK with other dogs.

They appeared to be a pair of dogs who escaped from someone's nearby yard. One had managed to dig out of the Agility area while we were talking about these two dogs and visited with the people and dogs in the small dog section.

One was chipped by Marion County Animal Control. The other had no chip.

If you have friends who know anything about these two dogs please call Sumter County Animal Control.

Forgot to mention that the pooch with the chip had not had its information put into whatever database was involved.

One of the dog park's employees was taking some pictures with a phone of the lost dogs and had hoped to get them posted at Doggie Doo Run Run.

Default ID's

This is a good time to stress people keep collars and ID's on their dogs at all times! You never know when they are going to get away from you.

OK.. end of my PSA!

How true. I did not know that dogs picked up by the dogcatcher in Sumter County do not have that long to live if they are of a certain size. From a reliable source, it sounds like smaller dogs have a much better chance of getting adopted, larger ones only seem to have a tiny time window before they are put down. She said 5 days only for large dogs.

That's sad... I know black dogs are hard to place as well. Please let us know if they find the owner.

Default Potential owner for lost dogs.

I got a lead for a person who might own these two pooches today from another dog park regular. Just let's keep our fingers crossed.

Unfortunately, I could not find a phone number for the residence where dogs that look like these two were seen.

I did contact via e-mail the Sumter County Animal Control with this residence's address.

Now we will just have to hope that they really do look throughly for the dogs' owners as their website seems to suggest.

This home is also in the direction these two labs were coming from while travelling up CR101 to Doggie Doo Run Run.

Mostly misinformation.

Here is a link to an educational site about it.

Good link, angiefox10. There are alot of black lab type dogs at Doggie Doo Run Run which come from many parts of the villages as well as other local communities. Hard to tell all these black dogs apart though.

No luck so far finding these two lab mixes' owners.

Hopefully, they will attract some interest from people looking for larger dogs for adoption.

Can someone stop by the house where you think they may live?

Default Good news. One of the pooches got into rescue facility in Lake County.

A dog park regular and I did stop by the house where someone said that he had seen the two lab mixes in the driveway. This is a heavily wooded lot just outside the Villages that is quite secluded.

The property is in probate and looks like it has not been lived in for a few months. No one was home at the neighbors' also secluded property either. In addition, there was no phone number available for this property owner in various Villages' phone books.

There is a couple with the same last name in the Villages and have Jr attached to the name on the Sumter County Property Appraiser record search of the tax records. So I assumed that this could be a son of the man from the probated property.

They were phoned by my dog park friend but never responded.

The dog park friend called a bunch of animal rescue groups in Central FL and managed to get the chocolate lab mix into a pet rescue facility where she can stay indefinitely in a ranch type environment.

The other lab mix is unfortunately still in the Sumter County Animal Control pound and will survive until another pooch needs the space.

What crap that is about black dogs looking alike. I can think of a disgusting similar analogy...There are 8 white bichons in my neighborhood, and, believe me, unless there is an owner with them, I cannot tell them apart!

Default Good result.

One of the dogs found a good home and the other one is with a rescue group that will find a good home for the pooch.
