Default garage floors

did my buddies garage; new home last March. Forgot the brand used but bought it @ Home Depot. 3 step process: Muric acid, bond, & epoxy W/sprinkles. Turned out nice.
Did bro-in-laws home in St. Pete with rustolium product process & also turned out nice.

Default Several options

I did my homework when I purchased our new home in TV and talked to everyone about this subject. You have several options. Prep work is critical. The first is to epoxy the floor (with or without flecks). You can purchase epoxy paint from Home Depot or on line if you want a more industrial strength product. Second option is you can use a color stain/sealer on the floor using products like Sherwin Williams. Another options is using a clear coat for the garage floor using a product like Thompson Water Sealer. The main reason is to try to keep the concrete clean (from oil and other spills) and keep the concrete dust down. All three have its pluses and minuses.

Regardless of whatever material or process you choose, it would be worthwhile to look into the issue of how slick the final surface can be when it gets wet.

Cool

We haven't done anything with our driveway just yet. We have gotten a few quotes, but I'm having a hrd time pulling the trigger on that one.

However, the first enhancement we made to our new home was to epoxy the garage floor. This happened BEFORE we even moved into the house. I had Tim the Toolman apply the surface and he did a fantastic job. I highly recommend Tim. If you do epoxy, be sure you use the 2 part epoxy and prepare the surface properly...ie etching with acid.

I have never had any issues with the floor being too slick.

Eventually, I'll do the driveway, but it will likely not be a paint or stain.

Cheers....

I still am struggling with the driveway issue. Being a person who likes to draw and paint, usually I like things embellished, but I just can't get into the driveway thing.

I really like some driveways, but I just don't like some driveways too.

AND on the issue of what Bill said...I want someone to tell me why it is good to have your garage floor painted, epoxied, whatever. I am as clumsy as a cow on a crutch and always have been. I don't need a slippery surface to skid around on.

Gracie..who is not up on things.

Gracie.... My concrete garage floor was very very smooth. My epoxied floor has more texture that the smooth garage floor, so [I think] it's less slippery when wet.

You're more than welcome to come over and I'll dump some water on the floor and you can try it out... PM me if you want to try it.

My main motivation for finishing our floor and driveway was caused by my lack of knowledge about electric carts and more importantly the effect of sulphuric acid on concrete driveways . See pictures below. We had our concrete stained by COST-LESS for $1.10/sq foot. It do not find it slippery and I feel like there is much less dust in the garage making it easier to broom out. If you are like me, you are always getting grease or brake dust on the floor and now it cleans up easy and my lovely wife is much happier

Default Wow

Your garage floor and driveway looks great!

Is the concrete stained, painted or has an epoxy finish? I ask because it looks like it has flakes. I know that you could use flakes when you epoxy your garage floor but didn't know if you could use flakes when you paint or stain concrete. How long did it take to do this?

Thank you ( I assume you mean me as I had pictures ). It is stained. There are no flakes, the last phase is they speckle stain the color of the border, at least that is what they did in our case.

Does putting epoxy on your garage floor void the warranty?

As stained in other posts, it makes clean-up a snap and no dust!

We had Tim "The Tool-Man" Miller do ours and it turned out great. I highly recommend Tim for this and anyother light work you need he is honest, clean and very reasonable.
