Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James F. Amos cuts the Marine Corps birthday cake during the cake cutting ceremony at the Pentagon in Washington Nov. 8. A sword is used to cut the cake to remind Marines that they are a band of warriors, committed to carrying the sword so that the nation may live in peace.

U.S. Embassies around the world are guarded by U.S. Marines. When you first walk into an Embassy you are greeted by "Post 1", which is manned 24 hours per day by U.S. Marines.

Each year the Diplomatic Community is pleased to attend the Marine Ball, a formal event, celebrating the birthday of the USMC.

We will be attending the ball Saturday, November 19, in Rome.

Semper Fi Marines and Happy Veterans Day to all who have served.
