Default Sumter Tax Collection

I was surprised the other day by a neighbor who asked about driving to Bushnell to pay his tax bill. Reason being is he is a snowbird and he forgot to bring his Sumter tax bill here. He was not aware that he could go to the new County offices at 466A and Powell Road in Wildwood. So my purpose here is to pass that along in case any others are not aware.

Also, we found it very handy in paying our bill today to take advantage of the drive-thru to pay the taxes. Since we were headed out that way this am we simply drove up and in less than 1 minute were on our way albeit with a bit of a dent in our bank account.

I'm in Canada. Yesterday I accessed the Sumter County website, and went online to pay our Tax Bill. I was planning to pay by Visa, until I saw that they would be charging us a Convenience Fee of $93! I mailed them a cheque instead.

BTW, Tax bills can also be paid at CR 466 and Morse Blvd.

Or, by golf cart, the Sumter county annex at morse and 466. I dropped mine off this morning...they have a drop box inside the door.

Good reminder to folks, SPK.... The maximum 4% early payment discount is due no later than next Froday, 12/2.

We haven't received a tax bill. We closed mid-September. I think I better check our closing paperwork. Is it possible we paid our taxes at closing?

Possible but unlikely. Check that closing paperwork closely or call the closing agent.

You would've paid pro-rated taxes at closing through the rest of 2011 but check your closing papers to verify. We've never had a closing where that wasn't the case.

The tax bills that are out now and due soon are for calendar year 2011. Thus you won't see a tax bill in the mail til late 2012 that will cover calendar year 2012.

I know you are talking about Sumter County places but don't forget that there is now a Tax Collectors office in the Terrace Shoppes at Spruce Creek (across from the WalMart on 27/441).

I am pretty sure you can pay your Sumter County bill there also.

I was in and out the other day. Paid the taxes and renewed my automobile registration.

I believe that WalMart is in Marion County.

How about putting a check in the self addressed envelope that came with the tax bill and just drop it in the mail!!! Mailed mine the day after it was received and it was processed and cashed in 3 days. Seems so simple to just handle it this way.

Does not matter. They will take your check.
