Went to a presentation at Palmers last night by Scientific Energy. They
claim their product (an aluminum sheet barrier) which is installed in the attic over existing insulation will reduce energy use by up to 40%. I do not know what the cost is. Has anyone out there seen this product and had it installed? If so what is the cost and how effective is it? |

I've not seen the presentation, but have some knowledge in heat transfer and home energy use, and would not expect anything near 40% energy savings from it. There would be some savings because it would reflect heat radiating from the roof. But, the attics in newer homes in The Villages are very well insulated. I'm sure that in these homes, the energy loss through the attic is much less than 40% of the total home energy use. Be careful of claims of savings "up to" any number.
