Smile News story not reported by Daily Sun Why?

I wonder if anyone here heard of this: It was perhaps over a year ago that a golf cart burst into flames at the shopping center, between Publix and Winn Dixie. By the time I arrived, the fire was put out by the fire department and the air was full of smoke that had the strong smell of plastic. I didn't hang around because I didn't want to breathe it in. So I went to Publix to do some shopping.

While in Publix, a young woman (an employee of Publix) came in and was showing everyone the picture she took of the fire. I was amazed. It was a fantastic picture showing the cart enveloped in a big ball of flames. It was a much bigger fire than I had imagined. She said the cart was driven by a man and he jumped to safety and had no injuries.

I told the woman that she should give the picture to the Daily Sun. I thought they might even be willing to pay her something for her trouble. I wondered what had happened to cause the cart to burst into flames and was hoping to read about it to find out. So I waited and waited but the story was never reported. Eventually, I called the newspaper and was told that because the fire happened after 5:00 pm, the newspaper was closed.

Is that the way things work? If there's a bad accident or mishap after 5:00 pm, it doesn't get reported? I find this hard to believe. How bad does it have to be? Would they report a house burning down after 5:00 pm?

It is VillagesFlorida and Villages Pl that I recently had confused. VillagesFlorida is a girl..and she took her picture off of her avatar recently and Villages Pl, a guy, never had any picture.

There posts are very different too.

Sorry Villages Pl...you were saying about the Sun?

I know nothing about the 5 pm deadline, but the daily sun is little more than a marketing tool of TV. They are not likely to, nor are they expected to, report news that may not promote the villages in a positive way. I say that not as a criticism, but as an observation. The developer owns and controls the content and they can report what they choose. It is a nice tool for what it is, and for what it isn't, there are many other news sources to choose from.

Unhappy Another story the newspaper got wrong

On Christmas Eve 2005, I was living in a CYV in Poinciana when a designer home a few blocks away burned to the ground. The owners and their grand daughter escaped with only the clothes on their backs. The house and their cars were a total loss. I watched the house burn from my bedroom window.

Sometime later, The Villages Daily Sun reported that the house had been struck by lightning. This was on a clear, cool December night about 11:00pm.

When I called the reporter about the error, she said it was the headline writer that made the error, and she knew it wasn't caused by lightning. No correction was ever printed.

Cause of the fire according to neighbors: the golf cart caught fire while being charged. I'm just guessing that the golf cart was bought at The Villages Golf Carts.

Ahhhhhhhh lighting has many electrons!

And a dead short in a series of Batteries with positive hot cables hooked to a charger. Maybe not fused that would result in glowing wires and melted plastic followed by sparks and a fire.

Heck Ford has been burning down Garages and catching vehicles on fire for years. Low bidder on them electrical switches.

I think that is what was meant?

Never thought about a electrical fire from a Charging Cart- NOT GOOD!

This is as bad as someone I know who keeps bring up the shooting that happened several years ago. Could we keep it to current happenings, maybe. Just wondering.

I believe the POA will be reporting all cart accidents in their newspaper. It's a serious problem and is underreported by the Sun. In the last 5 years there were 10 deaths by cart.

In the Daily Sunny bad things about TV are never reported.
In TOTV bad things are reported and then bumped again and again.

If something significant hits my Golf Cart, I'd rather be sitting over my battery's than five gallons of gas. Just a scorching thought!
