Sounds like a great service, BUT I thought in my deed restrictions that we aren't allowed to have a business in our homes. I'm closing on my home this week and am new, so tell me if I am reading all of that wrong or maybe misinterpreting it or something. I also see dog walking or puppysitting businesses. I think that's great and hope to use some of these people, as well as looking for a seamstress when I move in. How is it that we can have a home business? Just seriously asking, not trying to cause any trouble.

Big dogs... You will read many opinions on here, but, when this came up earlier I called the deed compliance office.... Basically, what they are sensibly trying to exclude is a home business that involves clients coming to you ( and thus creating extra traffic and bother to your neighbors) and businesses that involve maintaining a significant inventory of merchandise for sale.
Pet sitting, home watch, website development and other entrepreneurial endeavors that are conducted discreetly are not bothered. However, as they often say, deed compliance is a complaint driven process, so, if a neighbor reports you are cutting hair in your home, expect a visit from the deed compliance folks.

This should get interesting.....
Any time it comes to the RULES it seems that it depends on who is benefiting. |

If you are a woman, you could probably do a direct-selling business such as Party-lite, tupperware, jewelry----that kind of thing. Having done this type years ago up north, an inventory per se isn't made. You'd have your "kit" or "studio" (depending on the business) to share with your clients. You'd be the one going out to their homes. These types of home-based business's generally do not have clients coming to your home!
I think the business that this is implied to might be....a flooring business (I've heard of this up north) with all the samples and some items on hand in their garage or a room in the home, or maybe something like Amway where you'd have products on hand where folks could come and shop. Having that kind of traffic wouldn't be a great thing in neighborhoods! Last edited by NotGolfer; 01-02-2012 at 12:39 PM. |

i think another reason for not encouraging a home-based business is to deter any more traffic than necessary from non-villagers entering the residential areas of the community.

So a bordello is out of the question as a home based business?

We laughed at my Dad when he replaced the front porch lights with red lights at Christmas years ago. We thought he was putting my Mom and sisters to work.
He quickly changed one of them to green |
