Default will you pay $2 to play powerball?

i do not purchase any type of lottery tix - but i know plenty of folks who do. and the winners always seem to play daily and with consistent numbers; and when they buy scratchoffs they buy LOTS of the small denomination or a FEW of the big bucks tix.

anyway, with the cost to play this game - will you still play, but fewer tix, switch to another game?

now it's going to cost more to dream - but i guess players can dream bigger dreams.

I asked my husband who plays Powerball about 7 times a year. He said he normally spends $20 on tickets when he plays. He said, with the proposed price increase, he will not spend $40 on Powerball tickets to get the same amount of tickets.

I only play Powerball when the jackpots get larger (over $150 million). Since that only happens a few times a year, I will continue to buy tickets since I only buy about 5 tickets at a time.

And if I win a large jackpot, I will retire immediately and I will be a frog within a week .

something does not compute!!??

They give away millions and millions of $$$ on which they in turn also make millions and millions of $$$. So the price increase is what??? To give away more money? I hardly think so. It is to give away the same amount of $$$ and make more millions than they did before.

Absolutely ridiculous...makes no sense at all. It didn't make sense at the old price either. There are a lot of ways to get more for your money....maybe not as much but for sure for those who elect to put out the money. Lotteries are as productive as lighting your money with a match...but if that is your thing....have a ball.

No--we won't be purchasing any power ball tickets at $2.00. Would just double our losses!

Thought I saw yesterday on the news that with the increase cost of the new ticket would now lower the odds probability of winning from approx. 192,000,000 to approx. 150,000,000 to 1. Boy, sounds like a huge advantange now!!!!! What an incentive to throw your money away!!!! Just my opinion.

The news release about the price increase said that the initial jackpot was also doubled and you can win $1M for a lower place number.

I buy one Florida Lotto and one Powerball ticket each drawing and that will soon become one maybe two Florida Lotto tickets per drawing.

Short answer is NO.

IMHO - To each his/her own but it is my understanding playing the lotto, er powerball, is the biggest form of gambling. The original lottery in New York was advertised as the profit generated will be used to build roads, hospitals and schools needed. I didn't any of this happening so I guess I am a skeptic.
I wonder how much of the money raise really goes to these purposes or goes the adminstration of lotto machine etc. $2 a ticket sounds like a gimmick to raise revenue with smaller odds of winning.

It's the number one dream of everyone who plays they will be the lucky winner, so everybody enjoy the thought it will happen to you. I personally think the odds of hitting powerball is so miniscule.

Best wishes for hitting the powerball.

Nobody asked me so maybe I should have just stuck to my short answer. - Off Soapbox

I've said it before and I'll say it again--anyone who beats 150,000,000 to 1 odds or more (one hundred fifty million) certainly deserves all the money associated with the accomplishing the feat.

Why don't we throw our wallets with money on the ground and expect to come back and find someone has put more money in it.

IMHO - The powerball/lottery is a money making scheme.

Knowing people from the old neighborhood who were degenerate gamblers and their fantasy was the next money I bet will provide me with the riches I need and want.

Best wishes for all that hope to win and play in moderation.

One can dream so I won't try to rain on anyone's parade.
