I had a new carpet installed two years ago and decided to move some furniture. I noticed the nap in the rug was matted down with the imprints of the furniture. One piece of furniture was heavy and left an imprint that is not pretty.

I looked on the internet for a solution with some suggesting the use of a steam iron with the warning you could burn the carpet fibers if not careful.
This is not something I would try to do as I am all thumbs. I tried spraying with water, blow drying. and messaging with my fingers against the nap. It helped some but not enough to look normal. I trust the experience of our wise members to suggest to best way to raise the nap of the rug to its original height.

Does anyone have any experience doing this?

What have you found to be the most effective way to remedy this problem?

Let it go. It will come back up! Just needs time. Happens all the time.

It happens when I move furniture around too. I usually put an ice cube in the matted down area, let it melt thru and then fluffing the area with your finger nails. Works for me anyway. Good luck.

Fill the space with ice cubes (may have to do more than once) and just fluff up the nap after . Looks like the furniture was never there !

I've had luck spraying distilled vinegar on the fibers, waiting a moment or two then ruffling the spot.

Last year we moved out of our old house and into our new house, without having sold the old house. After we took out the very heavy office furniture, we were left with some pretty serious indentations in the carpet. I tried the ice cube method, and that did no good whatsoever. So then I tried the ironing method I found on the Internet. I was amazed!! I sprayed each indent thoroughly with water, then went over and over it with my iron, and re-wet it often until I could no longer see the indentations. In an empty room, they would have been very noticeable, but not so after using my water bottle and iron! Worked like a charm! And the house eventually sold, too.
