Default War Is Hell

If this man ever runs for president, I would compaign for him:
ALLEN WEST...“I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.

“All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?

“The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.

“As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.”

Well said!!!

The media only raises the profile on such an isolated incident to provide a platform for political positioning...in the vein of smoothing over the attitudes of our enemies by apologizing for America. In doing so they tarnish the good that is done or accomplished by the 99% of our service men.

One thing those who are quick to criticize have to realize is the permissive and violent education that our young people grow up in....extremely low moral values...decimated core values...and an alarming prevalence of it is not wrong or illegal until or unless one gets caught.

If Allen West cannot remember the films and the anger of Americans of the soldier's bodies being dragged through Mogideshiu, the bodies hung on a bridge in Faluja or beheaded soldiers - he has a very short or a very selective memory. There was massive American outrage at all of those.

Those videos of Marines ****ing on dead bodies will be used as Taliban or Al-Quaida propaganda to recruit more terrorists against the US.

Wrong of the Marines to do it in the first place and downright stupid to video it and show the video to others.

As for going to prison for such a thing, I would not agree. Reduction in rank to Private and the other items mentioned by Allen West would be appropriate. This is not a prison offense but just exhibited gross stupidity on the part of the Marines involved.

It wasn't the Marines finest hour, to be sure. But this is not a cotillion, as a great general has said. If you want a polite war use only air power and then go to sleep in clean white sheets afterwards. These marines on the ground there have witnessed all kinds of atrocities first hand, and understandably have a different mindset from those here judging them from the comfort of their Lazy Boy recliners.

At most an Article 15 is in order and a reprimand. I can walk into any funeral home in this country and do what these marines did and not face the consequences that some are demanding toward these young men we put in harm's way.

Buggyone: You certainly articulate some valid points, and I for one abhor such behavior irrespective of whethr it is committed by us or them.

However, I believe katz focused on the reality of it all and otherwise good and humane men and women are thrown into a world many of us could not even imagine.

You don't think any of "America's Greatest Generation" ever ****ed on or defiled or executed enemy wounded and/or enemy dead in WWII? I would be willing to bet it happened and more than once.

If those were hard-core Taliban, as I've said before, I really don't have a problem with their equivalent of a 'touchdown dance'.

I *might* have some sypathy if they (the dead partisans) were forced at gunpoint by the Taliban to fight for them. I doubt this is the case, though.
