Default Moonbeam McNewty

The full moon must be out because Newt Gingrich has declared he is going to colonize the Moon by the year 2020 and wants it to be the 51st US State.

Maybe he is going to use the Moon as a trysting place for the new affairs he will start having when Calista gets a few age wrinkles on her.

Colonize the moon? The cons would use it to start another war someplace. Use it launch missiles, most likely.

If you're going to dream, dream big.

I think there's lots of blood being spilled under Emperor Obama's watch. People in glass houses........................

My only complaint with Newt on this is that he didn't give details of how it could be done.

This is one area where I might sound like a COnspiracy Theorist but the tea leaves are out there. The Chinese have a VERY definitive plan to get to the moon and exploit it's resources - one of which (Helium-2) is almost nenoexistant on earth and could be used for fusion reactors. This could become VERY important in the future and we damn well OUGHT to be there.

What am I missing? Why is Gingrich's plan to build a base on the moon meeting your opposition and criticism, yet Obama's manned mission to Mars was applauded? Gingrich has given details of the plan. He's elaborating on Obama's plan for private/public funding for NASA and taking it steps further.

Newt, to my thinking, was just pandering to the Florida voter who probably has the most to gain by pursuing this grandiose plan.

Of course, Moonbeam was pandering to the Space Coast crowd.

I did not listen to most of the debate yesterday. Did anyone bring up his being kicked out of the Speaker of the House position by his own party or being fined $300,000 for ethics violations?

IMHO both space and ocean exploration are vital to our existence. As kids we watched Rocket Man, Dick Tracy, etc with amazement. today many of those technologies are not only available they have been vastly improved upon. I do believe the moon can be colonized and should.

China is the prime instigator in cyberattacks because they prefer to steal technology rather than develop their own. Probably owing to the pressure on growh from a country with 1/3 of our population.

In line with this thinking is building a stronger defense. Obama is paring back much too much. We need to build better, more and need to do it quickly. we should not be cutting back on military personnel. there is no peace didvidend in the offering.

Yeah, well I'd be all for that - IF we hadn't wasted 800 billion dollars in Iraq.

I checked out the link. Romney is so far off base he could be called clueless.

I would say to him "Sir, Google 'SpaceX' and 'Elon Musk'"

There IS a corporation in America that wants to go to the Moon and Mars - it's SpaceX and they are doing NOW what no private corporation has EVER done for a FRACTION of the money that it takes for NASA to do the same thing (and I've been a lifelong fan of NASA in most aspects).

I wonder if Governor Romney has even HEARD of SpaceX - much less know that they are the only company that has EVER launched a vehicle, had it orbit the earth and been recovered after splashdown. Their Dragon capsule will be going to the Internation Space Station in March on a supply run and NASA has given them money to upgrade that capsule so that it is MAN-RATED and can REPLACE the RUSSIAN seats that we have to buy to get to/from the station.
