If you own/ed a Samsung tv that's been cycling on & off several times before it FINALLY comes on and then 1 day it DOESN'T....this is for you. Cost for service technician repair alleged from $150 to as much as the cost for a new tv.
I read on the i-net and watched a youtube video about an EZ fix. I ordered the parts....bought a soldering iron....quit fishing for a day.....and got to work. Removed old bulging capacitors....installed new....plugged in tv & PRESTO. ![]() Total cost $13.95 repair kit $15.00 soldering iron because I gave mine to the kids when we moved to TV |

Samsung has a tech bulletin on that. I had a free in-home repair done last year, but that may not still be available. Might be worth a call to customer service.
However, congratulations to F16 1UB for being self-sufficient and passing the word along. I'm a Mr. Fixit type, so I know the feeling. I love to replace cell phone and GPS batts for five or ten bucks. |

IF your tv is under warranty it may be repaired. There's hundreds of posts saying just the opposite after 1 yr ownership. Samsung shows no mercy. It's YOUR problem. Many wonder why there's never been a recall enacted. My Hitachi, Philips, Sylvania, & Sanyo all work fine. Now I can include the Samsung after my fix.

I had a similar issue with my Sony TV. There was a class action lawsuit because Sony continued to use a critical component they knew had a high failure rate after one year. This would put the problem out beyond their warranty and, at that point, they were no longer responsible...so they thought. I believed they doubled the warranty to two years and, as with Samsung, they reimbursed for repairs.
In my case, when I purchased my TV I also purchased a 5 year warranty from Sony. Four years later when my TV failed because of the problematic component, I settled with Sony for $1400. I then purchased a new LED TV and it wasn't a Sony. I was fortunate, but there were many loyal Sony customers that got screwed.

We have four Samsung TV (two in each house) and a computer monitor - they all work fine.
Haven't received a letter from Samsung yet on the class action law suit. .

I just got the Class action notice right after my 5 year old, 46 inch LCD set was taken in for service. It is hung from a bracket with an extending arm. It turns out that after it was taken down from the hanging bracket and taken in to the technician, the problem disappeared. The technician says he has seen this happen once before. It seems the hanging from the wall bracket creates a warp that over time(for us, 10 months ) causes something to fail.
How are you at modifying wall hanging brackets? |

Go pull up a youtube video for Samsung tv repair. There's several on replacing capacitors & clicking noise. Parts are available from ebay or amazon. Do it yourself - just unplug the unit for 30 min, remove the board with the bulging capacitors that'll be VERY obvious, change ones that may even have a slight bulge. The kit will include more than enough. Just watch youtube a few times & you'll get the hang of it. You have nothing to lose.

MY LN52A650 Samsung just started acting up (cycling off and on...and I was not playing with the remote) so I called Samsung. They arranged to have a Service tech from Ocala make a service call to check out the capacitor(s). If the Capacitors are bad, they will be replaced . While here they will also check out the power unit. Hopefully this will be done by wednesday !
When this TV was aprox 4 months old I had the MotherBoard replaced for the TV simply went dead. Samsung has been good with making repairs covering both labor and cost of parts. TV is 3 1/2 years old..not under warranty. I believe the class action lawsuit settlement was for specific tv models manfacturered prior to December 2008. |

I jiust had the Samsung repair guy come by and he replaced 4 capacitors in the TV. ONe capicator was obviously "bloated" and he reaplced the others as identified by the Samsung Tech buletin.
My problem now is that the TV has the same problems as before......talk about being confused and frustrated! |
