Default Know anything about "HomeServ"?

I have a letter from a company called HomeServ offering a service contract for repairs to my water service line from house to service connection.
Never thought about this. Is it necessary?
Is this a reputable company?
The fee is not very high, about $59 a year, but do I need it or is this a scam?
Thanks for your input.

Some input: To me, insurance for that type of thing becomes a matter of personal preference - kinda like extended warranties for televisions, appliances, etc. Some people sleep better at night knowing they have insurance to cover such things. Others will feel it's a complete waste of money.

You probably should weigh the various factors out in your own mind to come to a conclusion. What are the odds of having a problem with your water service line between the street and your house (very slim?), what would it cost out-of-pocket to pay a company to repair it (call some local plumbing companies), and so on. It really comes down to being a 'peace of mind' thing for each individual.

For me? I don't see the need for it.

We also got the letter and tossed it. Looked like "scare tactics" selling to me plus look carefully at the payment plans. Yes, you can pay all $59.88 in one check but all other payment options will result in automatic deductions from your checking account (monthly or quarterly) OR automatic charges to your credit card. These type of payment plans are often hard to stop once you decide not to renew.

I also checked out this company with the BBB. They had a "C" rating and over 137 complaints with the BBB. The BBB report also noted that HomeServe USA (operating under various similar names) have signed various "consent agreements" with the Attorney Generals of Kentucky (2/26/10) and Ohio (4/15/10) concerning their sales practices.

Thanks. I'm tossing the letter along with all the other junk mail.
