I have done some poll and article research into two specific issues that have been giving a false name to conservatives on this forum:
Are most conservatives dead set on Pro-Life. Are most conservatives dead set on Religion First. I have found that MOST conservatives would not change their opinion of a candidate simply based on his view of Abortion rights. I have also found that MOST conservatives are more concerned with fiscal policy of a candidate than they are with his or her religious beliefs. So what I have decided, regardless of how outrageous some of the claims by either side on this forum are, they are in general out of touch with the vast majority of Americans both Republican and Democrat. I now understand clearly that I am in fact A CONSERVATIVE, but that does not make me a Republican. I have voted REP all but one election for my entire voting life, but I will from this coming election forward cast my vote for the best candidate. We live in a very culturally and religiously and sexually diverse country. Since I cannot condemn all Gays, Non-Christians, Non-Whites nor even Atheists, then I feel it is important to allow them all the privileges and rights of being an American. If that means voting for a GAY, Black, Atheist Women that is clearly the best person for the job, then so be it. I think that is the American way as intended by the US Constitution. I have been pulled in both directions on this Forum by some well meaning right wing folks and well meaning left wing folks. I will never again consider voting for or supporting a party just because it is a party. Now, since I always like to include something in my threads to irritate the radical among us: If you make your political choices based on your view on pro-life only or pro choice only or based on the candidates religion or lack of religion, you are being selfish in respect to the rest of YOUR countries citizens. That goes both ways. Are we a diverse country or are we no different than countries like IRAN where one religious belief runs every aspect of your life. Do you want true freedom in this country or do you want your personal beliefs to dictate everyone else? |

![]() I for one am sick and tired of all the compartmentalizing and classifying of individuals and then all the fluff and even more crap arguing who or which is best, worst and on and on. How about AMERICANS pursuing the best candidate and cut all the crap and BS on segregation. btk |

I really hesitate to get involved in any discussions on this forum, prefering instead to peruse the rants/comments/positions and most importantly, back-up information to same...most of the terribly offensive comments I've read here have been exchanged within my immediate family...causing deep personal and permanent wounds...to both sides I suppose. The fissure within our family, caused by politics couldn't be wider...I could run off a list of all the insults that have gone back and forth...but that only feeds the demon that divides us idealogically.
We need to remember, that we probably have friends and family on both ends of the political spectrum...is it worth personally insulting or fighting with them, and losing them over a political position. If only what has been said in my family could be undone...peace fellow Villagers and Americans...hopefully time will heal our family wounds and you'll avoid the worst personal side effects of intolerant/ignorant politics. So, the punch line (not literally) is: Are Conservatives angry...sometimes, but so are Liberals...and both sides can exhibit all the best qualities of humanity as well. I guess the implication to the title of this thread is, "Are Conservatives Always Angry?"...logical conclusion: No |

The only label I will allow to be put on myself is: "American"
Yes, I have Hispanic heritage, German heritage, Dutch heritage and other I don't know about. I've been dirt poor, wealthier than I am now, happier than I am now and more morose than I am now. I've been liberal on some issues, conservative on other. You can't pidgeonhole me. I am not a Hyphenated-American. I am American by birth and proud of it by choice. |

I'd like to post on this thread but I reject the statements and the assumptions of the OP. In this case how can I comment. This forum is getting very sensitive to personal comments and this thread begs for that.
So, I'll just say, speaking solely for myself, I reject the aspersions cast in this thread won't dignify them with a response. |

VillagerII has a lot of very good points in his posting.
As for his thinking about ProLife and religious candidates, I would take exception based upon what is posted on this forum. There have been too many pieces of intolerance posted about people of color or of a different religion from those who are of the uber-conservative bend. There have been too many posts of intolerance toward people in need of a helping hand by government. It seems to me that a lot of the very conservative people are in favor of a theocracy with no tolerance of those different from themself. That is NOT what America needs. That is NOT how America will vote for a President. |
