Default Florida in Top Ten Most Miserable States

Noticed on internet today that Florida is in Top Ten Most Miserable States to live in.

9. Florida
> Well-being index score: 64.9
> Life expectancy: 79.7 (12th highest)
> Obesity: 26.6% (23rd lowest)
> Median household income: $44,409 (15th lowest)
> Adult population with high school diploma or higher: 85.5% (17th lowest)

Florida’s state of well-being dropped significantly from last year, moving the state’s rank from 12th worst to ninth worst. The state had among the lowest scores in the well-being category that measures the work environment. Many Floridians do not have any work, as the state has the sixth-highest unemployment rate — currently 9.9%. State residents also are relatively unhealthy in many aspects when compared to other states. Florida has the eighth-highest rates of both heart disease and diabetes. The state also has one of the highest rates of violent crime in the U.S.

I'm glad they didn't discuss the Bubble of The Villages! Perhaps people will go elsewhere to retire. Just kidding folks!

The most interesting thing to me was the list of happiest States, quite a surprise! Well, Hawaii wasn't surprising, but some of the others were!

Very amusing. Kansas is listed as the 7th most happy state. Unless endless flat plains of dust and wheat stubble are you idea of paradise, I think perhaps they are adding 2 + 2 and getting orange.

In looking of the things in Florida that are bad it strikes me many of those are about people employed in the state, not retired there. With the huge service industry there, I'm not at all surprised.

I moved down from the Minneapolis MN area and I happen to agree with the survey. I wish I had not sold my home there. In fact in another study by Money Magazine listed the city I lived in as the best city in the country. It had been listed for over five years.

EDITED.

When I said it was cheesy, I was just joking about Rubicon's home state and all that fine cheese made up there.

I have always said I don't like Florida in general as much as I love the isolated, well kept and beautifully thought out consistency of this large gathering place of interesting people called THe Villages. It appears that is so for a lot of folks moving here from other parts of the state.

I would be enjoying living in The Villages no matter where it would be.

Gee, didn't know I was unhappy. If this is misery I'll take it. A little golf, a little dancing, some nice people ... hard work but someone has to do it

Well Rubicon...I moved here from the midwest as well. I've lived in the Twin Cities and love it there too. That being said...I do NOT love the winters or the traffic. The reason we retired here was primarily the weather....and the lifestyle and haven't regretted it yet. So I would say it's to each his own.

I agree with what "Another Linda" said.....I didn't know I was unhappy!
