Duffysmom was commenting earlier today on the eagle fight at the Norfolk Virginia site, WVEC.com | WVEC.com Eagle Cam. We've been watchng this site for years and it's like a soap opera for birds. This year we are eagerly awaiting an egg from Female # 3. (The male eagle lost his mate last year in a plane mishap. Never one to be discouraged, the male eagle has mated this year with three different females. However he seems to have bonded with Female # 3, who has redecorated the nest and has settled in.) Now we are breathlessly waiting for her first egg. The WVEC site has great moderators who will answer questions and provide an on-going education. Many school classes use this site.

The Decorah eagle nest now has three eggs. Great cameras and sound.. The site is beautiful, overlooking a horse farm. The eggs should be hatching before long. I love the eagles, they are so majestic.

There are thousands of nature cams out there, including bears in caves, etc. Nature cams are my pet passion. But I have to say, that this year's personal favourite for me, is the barn owls, Mel and Sydney. They currently have three eggs and one baby, the first egg hatched 3/07. Before you can click on the screen and get the Cam, the station usually plays a short commercial. I just turn down the sound, and soon the birds will appear.

The owl mom (on Mel and Sydney) is now feeding her new baby.

Great information Bare, thank you. There is so much we can learn by watching nature unfold. The eagles are endlessly fascinating to me and the way they protect and nuture their young is inspirational.

I agree. I watch Eagle Cams the same way other people watch television. Occasionally my husband says "Hasn't that eagle laid her egg yet" and I go into another saga .. squirrel visiting the nest, another eagle encroaching on the territory, duck brought to nest (one of my least favourite parts). I love the way male eagles are so nurturing, and that they take turns sitting on the eggs and allowing the mom to get out and go food shopping or spread her wings.

The male eagle bonded with a female eagle, but she was last seen on Thursday, current status unknown. In the meantime the male eagle is busy defending the nest against intruders. He has built a beautiful nest. One female eagle "intruder" has been hanging around for three days. The male eagle keeps escorting her out of the Botanical Gardens, but she keeps returning. Female eagles are very persistent during mating season.

The Barn Owl on Mel & Sydney just hatched her fourth baby. This is the fun part.

The Norfolk Male Eagle has a new girlfriend, the fourth female he has mated with this year. I hope there is an egg soon!

Male eagle lost his mate last year to an airplane. This year he has mated with four different female eagles and is currently bonding with Eagle #4. Sadly, no eggs yet.
