The CBO today issued new estimates on the cost...a few notes..
"President Obama's national health care law will cost $1.76 trillion over a decade, according to a new projection released today by the Congressional Budget Office, rather than the $940 billion forecast when it was signed into law. Democrats employed many accounting tricks when they were pushing through the national health care legislation, the most egregious of which was to delay full implementation of the law until 2014, so it would appear cheaper under the CBO's standard ten-year budget window and, at least on paper, meet Obama's pledge that the legislation would cost "around $900 billion over 10 years." When the final CBO score came out before passage, critics noted that the true 10 year cost would be far higher than advertised once projections accounted for full implementation." ------------------------------------------------- "The big picture takeaway is that due mostly to weaker economic projections, the CBO now projects that more people will be obtaining insurance through Medicaid than it estimated a year ago at a greater cost to the government, but fewer people will be getting insurance through their employers or the health care law’s new subsidized insurance exchanges" --------------------------------------------------- "It’s also worth noting that we were told time and again during the health care debate that the law didn’t represent a government takeover of health care. But by 2022, according to the CBO, 3 million fewer people will have health insurance through their employer, while 17 million Americans will be added to Medicaid and 22 million will be getting coverage through government-run exchanges." That averages out to $176B per year. Not much more than our wars.

When ever people get caught at a lie they always try diversions as a method of validity. Did it all the time as a 10 year old till I found out it doesn't work. Tell the truth and shame the devil.

Get out in the job market and see how many companies offer a health plan that folks can afford. While you are out there see how many companies offer 40 hour weeks so people can qualify for ins. I see young folks not getting the plans and full time employment many of us enjoyed. I'm saying this not as a fan of the Government Health Plan but if you want to pick at me, who cares. |

If the numbers or estimates are true and no reason to doubt them then we will almost but not quite be at a break even with the amount of money we have spent on the last three wars.
In fact the dollar cost for the wars will never really be known because of the disabling injuries incurred by our veterans. And lets not forget the expense of these wars were never entered into the budget of The United States. We just spent money that we had to borrow. |

It was to discuss the health bill recently passed which has not even taken effect yet and the price keeps going up. I am not sure why those who support this administration and their policies, continualliy when confronted with facts begin to discuss Bush. If you want to discuss the goods and bads of Bush, for some reason almost 4 years later, then start a thread, but that CANNOT be your response every time this man is caught in another lie. If you have something to offer relative to the health care bill, PLEASE do so...welcome it, but what may I ask would be the point of discussing the cost of wars conducted (with congressional approval) years ago. Obviously, this is a built in defense mechanism...your assumption being that it is all about Obama vs Bush....not the case, never has been...if you want criticism of Bush, let me know..I can do that....if that is your answer to everything, then my assumption is you just follow what you are told ! |

Not an attempt at deflection at all - just putting it in perspective.
I think it highlights the thinking - or priorities - of our political parties. |

THAT I accept, in my opinion. This was simply a grandstand political act by the most political inspired President we have ever had. And, as I always do, let me take to task the media who never held his feet to the fire concerning his broken promises on this, not only on the transparency of the process but also on the total disregard to COSTS.

But Haliburton and Dick and Junior's friends made a lot of money off of those wars - the fact that 4000+ americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraquis had to die is irrelevant to Dick and Junior. Dick is now afraid to travel even to Canada - and Junior is afriad to travel outside of the USA for fear he would be arrested as a war criminal. A nice omen - a former American President a wanted war criminal . My biggest disappointment in Obama is that he didn't arrest Junior and put him on trial. |

"As many as 20 million Americans could lose their employer-provided coverage because of President Obama's healthcare reform law, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said in a new report Thursday."
CBO report says healthcare law could cause as many as 20M to lose coverage - The Hill's Healthwatch This is the bill that our President spent one full year and not much time on anything else.....the bill that was done in backroom, and with blackmail. The bill he lied to all of us about....it would be an open process and it would be addressed at Healh care costs. A YEAR, while unemployment was at its peak.... And this is a man we want to reelect ? I am sorry....I was opposed to him and his style of leadership and his roots of philosophy and he is worse than I expected. The only thing that has save us some is the election of 2010....not that they are a bunch of leaders..just the opposite, but had he had full reign again...can only imagine what would be happening. |

I have advised you many times of the statistical breakdown of the groups that will be voting for the re-election of President Obama. He comes out on top in every situation.
You are certainly free to express your feelings and opinions but do so with the realization that they will make no difference to mainstream American voters. Mainstream American voters do not want Santorum who is a radical Christian extremist; The Newt is not even considered a possibility; and Mittens just keeps putting his wingtips in his mouth every chance he has. Who can save the G'Nopers as a VP candidate? Well, Caribou Barbie - as shown both in reality in 2008 as well as that excellent movie, "Game Change" was the reason the G'nopers lost in 2008 because she was just not a smart person. I wonder if she could now answer what newspapers she reads on a daily basis. Vote Democrat and be happy! |
