Default Coconut Oil Touted as Alzheimer's Remedy - CBN TV - Video

I'm putting this out there for informational purposes. I received this link about two weeks ago and found it profound enough to pass it on to family and friends. We know so many people who are in one form of dementia or another, including my father, who has been afflicted for at least 16 years. I've heard back from a few of those that I sent this to and they have indicated that they had been familiar with the values of coconut oil and are in some kind of regiment with it.

Today I heard back from a friend whose husband is in full-blown Alzheimer's. She said that she started using the coconut oil two weeks ago and has noticed at least one of the newer behaviors completely reverse itself. She's not expecting miracles, he's beyond that point, I'm sure. She does see improvements and will continue using it.

I hope you find it interesting and just maybe of value. Here's the link: CLICK HERE

Thanks for that story, very interesting!

Years ago, I used to buy coconut oil, it wasn't easy to find and had to be ordered from a specialty company. It was pretty expensive, but it did taste good... Stopped buying it after a while...not sure why.

Now that it seems to be more readily available, maybe it's another oil we could add to our kitchen pantries.

Probably because it is one of the worst oils you could consume as far as heart health.

I'm not positive about it being the worst oil, Shimpy.

Olive oil is still #1 as far as many medical professionals are concerned.

Bring me up to date. I always heard olive oil was one of the best for you. I may also be mixing up coconut oil and palm oil.

Thanks for sharing, Xavier! Very interesting information. I have actually been using coconut oil for a little while. I even asked at the doctor's office recently and they heard on this, too.

FWIW After much research, I started using coconut oil (organic) exclusively for cooking and olive oil (first press, cold pressed) for salads over 10 years ago. The myth about coconut oil comes from studies that were based on hydrogenated coconut oil, and all hydrogenated oils are bad.

The coconut oil takes longer to heat up and therefore stays "intact" while cooking, whereas the olive oil "burns" easily and therefore is altered in the cooking process. I think that you may have been confused palm oil with coconut, and palm oil is to be avoided. If you look up the benefits of coconut oil, you will be surprised how healthy it is for you. I even do my eggs in it if I am frying them.

The only other oil I keep on hand is roasted sesame oil for steaming fish, chinese style with ginger. And I do oil pulling daily with plain sesame oil to keep myself as healthy as I can and free of pathogens - an ayurvedic practice that really works! Google it, if you want. It is really easy and something anyone can do to help themselves get healthier and stay healthier.

Default Anecdotal with the author having a personal and financial interest in the outcome

Snopes has a nice review of the status of the information in the report on CBN. It is available at snopes.com: Coconut Oil As a Treatment for Alzheimer's Disease
In summary there is no medical reference to support the claim. The claim is made by a person who is sellling a book to promote the claim. The author has a personal interest in the subject as her spouse has dementia which means she is personally invested in hoping the treatment works. While none of that means that there is no reason to refuse to try it, as with many nutritional miracle cures, take it with a large spoonful of skepticism.

Olive oil is a monosaturated fat and these fats are good for us. They help our bodies in many ways....reducing breast cancer risk to some extent, help improve our lipid profile, lower the risk for heart disease and stroke, lessen pain of arthritis, help in the reduction of belly fat, among other things.

Coconut oil is a rich source of medium- chain triglycerides. These are immediately burned by your liver for energy -- like carbohydrates, but without the insulin spike. MCTs actually boost your metabolism and help your body use fat for energy, as opposed to storing it, so it can actually help you become leaner.

Whether it works to help those with Alzheimer's or not isn't known for sure....but it might be helpful to some in maintaining good health. We must all decide what is best for us, work with medical professionals we trust and try to remember that moderation in all things is probably the best way to live...

Um... if you can't remember why you stopped buying it, maybe coconut oil will help.

Have you seen Forks over Knives? (best selling documentary on Amazon)

The new thinking based on 30 years of research says NO oil of any kind.

Dr Esselstyn & Dr C. Campbell it will open your eyes and your blood vessels!

Stop making the drug stores rich.
