Default Wasp spray for security

I know many of you own GUNS but this is something to think about...---

If you don't have a gun, and are a little apprehensive about owning one, here's a more humane way to wreck someone's evil plans for you. Did you know this? I never really thought of it before.

Wasp Spray- A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area was concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked the local police department about using pepper spray and they recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead.

The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection. Thought this was interesting and might be of use.

On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in Toledo dead, self defense experts have a tip that could save your life.

Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High School. For decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet spray near your door or bed.

Glinka says, "This is better than anything else I can teach them."

Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says "spray the culprit in the eyes." It's a tip he's given to students for decades.

It's also one he wants everyone to hear. If you're looking for protection, Glinka says look to the spray. "That's going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe get out." Maybe even save a life.

Please share this with all the people who are precious to your life.

Did you also know that wasp spray will kill a snake? And a mouse! It will! Good to know, huh? It will also kill a wasp.!!!!

Default Feeling Threatened?

I am a gun person; however, have never felt threatened inside The Villages. Have any of you ever felt not safe?

My reaction on reading the post was that the suggestion sounded like a good way to get yourself killed-- where is the evidence that wasp spray, or your brand of it, will incapacitate an attacker? But I was curious. Here is what I think is a good, but superficial, analysis of the subject: Wasp Spray for Self-Defense - Urban Legends

I personally like the one locally (glad we're moving btw) and intruder broke into a house...women grabbed the only thing she could think of...loose poster from her bed. Utilized as a baseball bat. The intruder never made it out and she beat the guy senseless. The mug shot was hilarious, look like he got into a brawl. Good for her! He never got near her.

Probably a more reliable weapon than wasp spray, but a good thing that the intruder was not described as a 17-year-old black. Otherwise, based on the facts that you describe, the woman's house would now be surrounded by demonstrators, joining the news media in demanding her arrest, and there would be numerous posts on this site defending the intruder and attacking the woman.

Oops..well not that the ethnicity mattered to me, just thought the overall handling deserved applause but she was black middle age female (with children in the home) and the intruder hispanic. Nothing news worthy in this state. More of the don't mess with a mama grizzly

Oh just to clarify when I say ethnicity doesn't matter to me...an intruder is an intruder. I grew up on military bases around the world with all sorts of individuals, we werent this color or that, we were army brats Not going to comment on the other news story.

If you are referring to my post, how much would you like to bet? If you would like to put your money where your post is, give me a dollar amount.

You can't seem to realize that the posters re Martin are not defending Zimmerman, but are attacking trial by distorted reporting and professional demagogues like Sharpton and Jackson. Race, per se, has nothing to do with it. I would feel the same way if Zimmerman were black, rather than Jewish-Hispanic, and the media, demagogues, and posters like you were convicting him on the basis of the information now available. From the evidence that I have heard about, there is no way that a jury could convict him of anything beyond a reasonable doubt, and it does not even seem that the police have the probable cause necessary to make an arrest. Certainly, it is improper for the police to arrest someone if they don't think that they can get a conviction.

But more facts may emerge. In the meantime, I would suggest you, unlike the media, be more restrained before accusing someone of murder and wait for the conclusion of the investigation.
