Hi, I'm moving into my home in Virginia Trace on April 17th. I am looking to take up golf for the first time in my life. I am 58 years young and had back surgery last November. My Doctor said I should get proper lessons from a "Real Golf Pro" and not from someone that "thinks" he or she is a Pro. He claims a "Real Golf Pro" can help me learn the proper swing so I don't mess up my back. I was planning on taking six lessons and then purchase clubs based on my Pro's advice on what to purchase. Anyone out there that knows the Pro that would be the guy to teach me the sport? Any comments or advice will be appreciated. I am told I am a great cadidate for learning the game as I have neither good or bad habits. Let me know what you think. Thanks,---Billyworld

I never played golf in my life until I moved to the Villages. I took lessons with Michael at Tree Tops and am now playing two and three times a week. By no means am I a good golfer but at least I am out there having fun. Check out his website. Tree Tops Golf

Go to the Villages Golf Academy at Palmer's, when you arrive and they will set you up with a teaching Pro. They have some good ones.....

Memason is absolutely right. Palmer Golf Academy is excellent and can provide you with everything you need based on your skill level.

Agree with Villages Golf Academy. They deal with new golfers like you all the time and also with physical limitations.
Two locations, at Palmer and at the Sarasota range south of 466a |

Panigoni Golf
Excellent PGA PRO and very reasonable, he teaches the stack and tilt method which is much better on your back. Also uses video to show you your swing and what needs corrected. |

Joey Hidock at the Sarasota Practice Facility is great. Would certainly recommend him!

I'd recommend looking up an old episode of "The Honeymooners" where Ralph Cramden teaches himself how to golf with the help of Ed Norton.

What a line, I'll never forget it. He also practiced in his kitchen for up hill shots by putting one foot on a stack of books. He said it would probably take him a week to become really good at golf.
