We just got home and about 20 m north of the Mich border there is construction on 1-75...the detour is also under construction . We traveled on a Sun so not as bad as would have been during the week. The Ambassador bridge is also out so we found the tunnel and ended up in Windsor, never did get back on 1-75.

Thanks for the heads up. We're leaving soon for the trip back to Ontario. Do you have any idea how long the Ambassador Bridge will be closed?

As a general question to travellers driving north ... do you find travelling through the USA on the weekend preferable to travelling during the week?

Why would you want to travel during the week, every city you go through will have weekday traffic. Weekend travel is much less stressful.

Went To Michigan last week-Construction on 75N-had no problem,no delays-it was Wed from 1:00 to 2:30 PM-reversed course Friday at 11:AM-again no problem

No Bare, we were surprised as we thought all the construction was DONE!!
Hubby ALWAYS wants to drive on the w/e...less traffic but there were still a lt of snowbirds as I guess a lot of people thought the same as he did.

Just found out that the detour for was only on the weekend. No problem yesterday for our friends who took 1-75 straight through.

Or if you must travel during the week, try to arrange your travel times so that going through the larger cities happens during non-rush hours....if that's possible.

We've got two choices of decent routes between central OH and TV - I-71/I-75 and I-77/I-26/I-95/etc. If we're traveling on weekends, we'll take Option A - otherwise, we pick B simply due to the lesser number of larger cities we have to navigate.

When I drove from Los Angeles in 08, I used the AAA website to route my trip. They give you all closures, construction and possible back ups along the way. I found it very helpful and literally had no real traffic issues for the 3000 mile trip. I was also skirting around a hurricane so that added additional difficulty, but I knew at the end of it all was my house in paradise awaiting me... Made it all seem so worth while. Try the AAA website, it may be helpful.

Just heard that I-40 near Ark/Okla border is having a upgrade - that should help the economy in that area!

For anyone who are up for a more leisurely trip north you may want to try the route we just took in April. The heavy traffic on 75 (especially the semi-trucks) is starting to make me a nervous rider and an even more nervous driver. We had also heard of major back-ups along 75 - so, we decided to try 301 North, eventually traveling on 23 into Michigan. If anyone would like a more detailed discription, would be glad to answer a PM. Most of the roads were divided 4 lane highways. Will definitely be taking this way again.

The 301 route took us an extra half day but was only 100 miles longer (than taking 75) we averaged about 50 miles per hour - that's why I mentioned a more leisurely trip. We saw some pretty countryside. It was a nice change of pace for us, if you were on a time-frame or in a hurry this wouldn't be the route for you. We were involved in an accident on the way to TV this year so I'm not anxious to drive 75 for any length of time anymore - less traffic the better. I remember the days when we would drive straight through

We've taken parts of that 301 & 23 route on various motorcycle trips in the past. It definitely makes for different scenery and a much more relaxing trip. You get to see some really beautiful country the further north you go on 23 - very picturesque.

But as stated, you won't make the same time like you would on 75!
