Last night just before sundown we saw a red fox vixen and two kits in the rocks by the pond behind our house. They were really cute with Mom keeping watch while the youngsters ran and played.

We are at least 1 1/2 miles from the edge of the development and I was surprised they were in this far. Anyone else seen any?

Maybe all the construction to the south ran them out.

I've seen foxes on the Roosevelt golf course. They were darting in and out of the tall grass that separates holes 8 and 9.

Foxes will take cats and small dogs.

Since we put trash out twice a week in plastic bags, I would think both foxes and racoons in TV would have a field day. Up north the racoons will take the covers off trash cans. Yet I've never seen the trash bags destroyed. I wonder how long it will take Florida's wild life to discover this free meal for the taking?

A week or so ago a neighbor spotted a coyotte running across Odell in the area between Mallory pool and Amelia pool towards the golf course, very early in the morning. LOTS of critters in our area!

I have been in The Villages for almost nine years and have seen foxes a half dozen times. The last time was a month ago about 8AM. I was talking to my daughter on the phone and spotted one trotting across the Hacienda golf course behind my house. When I informed my daughter of the sighting she told me that there would be a lot more foxes around if I hadn't shot so many 40 years ago. (1500 mile north of here!)

we have had critters(?) into our trash on trash days. I now spray the bags with a little ammonia and that has done the trick to keep them away.

It is only a matter of time before they find another bag they like some where else.

This morning at approx 6:45 I was chatting with a neighbor who was walking his dog and his dog suddenly jumped and turned around looking down the street. I looked and spotted a red fox coming out from between two homes which back up to the golf course. The fox was trotting and crossed the driveway into the bushes in front of the house. Beautiful animal but there are several small dogs on this street and it makes me nervous thinking the fox might attack a small dog when being leash walked. Hopefully the presence of a human would deter that from happening.

we have lots of foxes, coyotes, skunks and coons here in NY but I have never heard of them attacking a dog on a leash. The foxes and coyotes go after loose animals though. Cats in particular go missing frequently which is why mine are inside cats. Rabies can be a problem in these wild animals but if your animals have current shots it should not be a problem. We have lots of controversy on whether or not people can shoot them.
